We had only been driving for a few moments when Andy's phone rang. His car had a feature that amplified the call through the car speakers. Andy pressed the button to answer it and quickly said hello.
Scout's voice filled the car as she said, "Hey, Andy, have you heard from Jake?"
"No, I thought he was going back to your place last night."
"He was supposed to, but he didn't and now he isn't answering his phone."
"Hey, Scout," I said. "Did you try calling Ashley or CC?"
"Hi, Hailey. No, I don't want to be one of those clingy girlfriends. I'll just wait until he calls me back. Thanks anyway, you guys."
We said our goodbyes and Andy hung up. Things were still pretty uncomfortable between Andy, Scout, and Jake, but they had been dealing with it maturely. Most of the remaining tension was between Andy and Jake. Scout had left a few days after Andy and I's shopping trip, which had made things less awkward, but didn't succeed in revitalizing Andy and Jake's friendship.
"He's probably still passed out from last night," Andy commented.
"Most likely. They seemed to have a master plan to almost die of alcohol poisoning, so I'm sure they're recovering."
"Yeah... I don't know. I have a bad feeling."
"Why?" I asked.
"Jake's always pulled this shit with girls. He'll fall in love with them for awhile and be totally infatuated. Then, he's just over it. Jake will go out, get wasted, and fuck some random girl. It's his constant cycle," Andy explained. "That's one of the reasons I didn't want him to date Scout. I mean, it was fucking wrong, but I also didn't want Scout to get hurt."
"Oh, well, maybe this time it will be different."
"I hope so," Andy said, lighting a cigarette as he drove. We sat in a comfortable silence for the rest of the car ride. When we arrived in Santa Monica, it was packed. It took us 15 minutes to find a parking spot and 20 minutes to walk from said parking spot to the pier. Even though it was only March, it was really sunny and hot in California. The state definitely lived up to its reputation. Finally, Andy and I made it to the pier. It was a boardwalk lined with stores and carts, along with an amusement park. It was crowded with people and in the distance, we could hear the waves lapping against the shore.
"This is so amazing," I said to Andy, as we walked hand-in-hand down the pier.
"I'm glad you like it. I've only been here a few times, but it's a lot more fun when you're in a couple," Andy said, smiling at me. A group of children ran by us, squealing. "... Or you're seven years old."
After walking around for awhile, Andy and I decided to stop at one of the many burger joints lining the boardwalk. Andy and I both ordered cheeseburgers and fries and sat down at one of the nearby tables. Once we finished our food, Andy and I walked towards the amusement park and got wristbands to go on the rides. First, we went on the rollercoaster, which was both Andy and I's favorite. After that, we went on the Sea Dragon, a swinging ship ride, the Pacific Plunge, a drop ride, and the bumper cars. For the most part, we were surrounded by children. One kid, who looked about eight, seemed to be entranced with Andy. We had ridden on the Sea Dragon and the rollercoaster with him and both times, he spent most of his time staring at Andy.
Luckily, Andy didn't seem to mind. If anything, he was merely amused. Just as we were getting off the bumper cars, we ran into the kid again. This time, he walked up to us, grinning.
"You're Andy from Black Veil Brides. I love your music and out of all the members, you're my most favorite," the kid said.
"Thanks. I'm glad you like our music. What's your name?"
