Chapter 12

Everything was still. No sounds were made except for the crying. It seemed like we searched forever but all our work was found in the barn. Daddy was helping Carol up but she ran off. Beth ran over to who I think was her mom but it started to attack her. Everybody ran over to help her. I just sat there. Everybody started walking towards the house.

"Man you new she was in there the whole didn't you?" Shane pestered

"Leave us alone." Maggie snapped

"I didn't know." said Hershel

Shane and Hershel started auguring. I got up and ran in the RV. I sat down at the table with Carol.

"I really thought we'd find her." I whispered

"I had my doubts." she said

Daddy walked in and sat down on the counter. Lori walked in and told us they were ready for the service.

"Why?" she whispered

"Cause that's your little girl." daddy said

"That's not my little girl. It's some other thing. My Sophia was alone in the woods. All this time I thought. She didn't cry herself to sleep, she didn't go hungry, she didn't try to find her way back. Sophia died a long time ago." Carol stated

Lori and daddy walked out. I followed right behind them.

I sat on the porch swing watching Andrea and T-dog load the remaining walkers in the truck. Carl came up and sat next to me.

"Are you okay?" he asks

"Why should I be. I just watched my best friend as one of those things Carl." I snapped

"I lost her to Cher it's just not you who lost her." he snapped

"I don't want to talk to anyone right now Carl." I said

I ran to our tree climbed up and just sat there. I was confused at everything. I thought about the time I had met Sophia.

I was walking through the tons of cars and people on the highway. I then heard

"Sweetheart are you ok?"

I looked up and saw two women and two kids.

"I can't find my daddy." I said

"Well you can stay here and wait to see if your dad comes ok." said one of the women

"Ok." I said and walked over to the car

I saw two kids playing checkers.

"Hi I'm Cherokee." I said

"I'm Sophia." said a little girl

"I'm Carl." said a boy

We sat and talked for awhile until I heard a familiar voice call.

"Cherokee!"

"Daddy!" I yelled and ran over

"Where the hell were you girl?" he snapped

"I was trying to find you and Uncle Merle." I said

"I told you to stay in the truck though." he said

"I got bored." I shrugged

"Well don't do it again." he sighed

"Ok daddy." I said

"I'm guessing this is your daddy." the one lady said

"Yep, daddy this is Carol." I said

I felt someone sit next to me.

"What do you want Carl." I sighed

"Just to say I'm sorry for being mad at you." he said

"It's ok." I said

"Do you want to head back to the house it's getting dark." I said

"Sure." he said

We walked back to the house. It was already dark. Shane ran over to us.

"Carl have you seen your mom" he said

"Nope." Carl said confused

Shane walked away.

"See ya Carl." I said

"Bye Cher." he said and hugged me

I walked up to my camp and sat down next to my dad. Carol ran up to us a little while later.

"We can't find Lori and the guys aren't back yet either." she said

"The dumb bitch must have gone out lookin for em." said my dad

"What?" Carol asked

"Yeah she came up and asked me to look for em I told I was done being and errand boy." he said

"And you didn't say anything?" she asked

Carol started walking away then she came back.

"Don't do this please. I've already lost my daughter." she begged

"Yeah that wasn't my problem neither." he snapped

Carol started walking down towards camp I ran after her.

"She went looking for them." Carol said

I heard Carl gasp. I looked and saw him running away.

"Carl!" I yelled

We heard a car pull up and we ran outside.

"They're not back?" Lori asked

"Look I gotta make sure the baby's alright." Shane said

"You're having a baby?" Carl asked

C'mon lets make sure you're alright." Dale said

"I am so sorry I left without telling you." Lori said

"It's alright I wasn't scared." Carl said

They started talking.

"We never gave him the talk." Lori said

Carl looked at Dale.

"Don't look at me that's your fathers job." he said

"I better be going." I said

"Night Cher." everybody said

I walked up to my tent and fell asleep.
