'Call your girlfriend, it's time you had the talk. Give your reasons, say it's not her fault; that you just met somebody new...'

Guilt.

Guilt ate Dan at night as he laid next to his girlfriend, thinking about someone else and wanting someone else. He just couldn't help himself.

And during the day while (Y/N) was at work, Dan was with this someone else, doing all the things with her he once did with (Y/N). He felt guilty, very guilty, but at the same time, this new girl was everything he never even knew he wanted.

"You need to tell her, Dan" she would say to him every time they were together. And he would always reply with this same answer.

"I'll tell her when the time is right, i just don't want to hurt her."

He knew it was pathetic, cheating on his girlfriend, and not breaking up with her because he didn't want to hurt her. He couldn't explain it, even if he wanted to. He knew what he was doing was hurting her, and would hurt her in the long run, but he just didn't know how he would explain his infidelity to (Y/N).

How would he tell her? There was never going to be an easy way or a right time to do it, and deep down Dan knew that, but he never wanted to be responsible for breaking someone's heart, when in reality, three hearts we're breaking. (Y/N)'s, the other womans, and Dan's.

(Y/N)'s heart was breaking because Dan had been extremely distant, and no longer taking much interest in her, but she deeply loved him with all of her heart.

The other woman's heart was breaking because all she wanted was to be with Dan, without anybody else in the picture. But she too felt guilty, for ruining what could've been an amazing long and healthy relationship between two people.

And Dan?

His heart was breaking because he knew that one day, he would have to look his girlfriend in the eyes, and say he doesn't love her anymore, and that he's found someone else. And then, he'll have to look at her heart broken face, as he tells her everything.

"How would I even tell her? I don't think I can." Dan trailed off, anxiety and guilt eating away at his mind. "What would I even say?"

"You would tell her that you need to talk, and then you say that nothing is her fault, it's just that you met somebody new, and you give her your reasons. She's going to be heartbroken, but she needs to know Dan." His lover explained, tangled in her bed sheets as Dan lays beside her. " And then, you tell her that the only way her heart can mend, is when she learns to love again. And you let her down easy. Tell her how she shouldn't second guess everything you've ever done in your relationship, and tell her how you never meant to hurt anyone, and how hurting her was never your intentions."

Dan was busy processing everything that was being said to him, thinking 'this is so cliche' but knowing that his lover was right, he needed to tell (Y/N) and he had to let her down easy.

"Call your girlfriend, Dan. It's time you had the talk" And with that, he listened to the woman who had captured his heart, but also ruin his relationship. Dan picks up his phone, and dials her number.

"Hey babe! What's up?" (Y/N)'s voice echoes through the phone, making Dan's heart accelerate.

"Hey. (Y/N), we need to talk about something...."
