CHAPTER TWO
The New GroupTHE NEXT FEW DAYS were the same routine, Mae woke up, went to breakfast, went back to her room, Aris showed up and two tried to figure out what kind of people they were stuck with and if they could find a way to leave. The two then went to lunch and then were forced back into their own rooms, much to their dismay. And at night, the two would go back into the vents and watch the bodies roll into the room.
But, today was different.
Mae suddenly woke up to someone shaking her, groaning, the girl peeled her eyes open to see the same guard that stood in the cafeteria, standing over her. After only getting one hour of sleep last night, Mae was in desperate need of a nap, which only lasted half an hour. She could still feel the man's hard gaze on her and she merely turned on her side, away from him.
"Get up! Or you're missing dinner!" The guard boomed, grabbing her shirt and pulling her forward.
The girl rolled her eyes while forcibly swatting his arm off her. "I'm sorry– whatever your name is– but, if I'm not mistaken, this is an invasion of privacy."
"Just get up." He seethed.
"You see–"
"That's it!" He yelled as he grabbed Mae's forearm so tightly that she thought he'd leave bruises. The man dragged her out of her room and down the white halls Mae hated.
"Hey! Let go!" Mae began to squirm to do her best to get out of his grip but it was no use, he was too strong. "Get the hell off me!" The girl snarled but he completely ignored her as he continued to drag her down the hallways. Just about when she was about to kick him, a voice stopped her.
"Officer James, what's going on?" The voice asked from down the hall.
The brunette mentally groaned and turned her head to see Janson standing on the other side of the hallway with kids behind him. Mae huffed, knowing there was another Maze, meaning more rowdy kids in the cafeteria. The group of kids stared at her, confusion written on their faces. Mae, herself stared at the group of kids, examining their faces.
A brunet boy with dark brown eyes who was tall and quite well built. A girl with raven black hair, piercing blue eyes and slim. Next to her was a very built Asian boy with spiky black hair and black eyes. Behind him was a darker skin boy, very tall and quite big. On the right of him was a short brunette boy who looked lost and last of all, a pretty tall and lanky sandy blond haired boy, with chocolate brown eyes, a cut underneath his left eye and a built figure.
They all had dirt caked on their faces and sweat painted on their foreheads. Mae crinkled her nose at the smell, knowing that's how bad she smelt when she first arrived. Her eyes drifted to the side of them, somehow expecting to see more of them.
Janson gritted his teeth in anger. He needed the newest arrivals to trust him and them seeing one of the staff dragging around what he called a 'subject', and a very important one in fact, wasn't a step in the right direction.
"I woke her up from the kindest of my heart so she wouldn't miss dinner and all she did was mouth off." The guard informed incorrectly. Mae raised her eyebrows before shoving the man away from her, straightening out her shirt.
"You have a heart?" Mae asked innocently with her eyebrows raised. "Well, that's nice. Guess now all you're missing is a brain."
Officer James opened his mouth to say something but Janson immediately interjected. "Officer, just make sure she gets something to eat. We wouldn't want our guests to go hungry."
