Emmie was a little hesitant to get into Luke's car. I mean it was another guy she did not know. So Luke sat on the sidewalk with her and he let her ask him questions until she felt comfortable.

"Thank you Luke. You didn't have to do that."

"I could see she was a little scared of me. Either there is a big reason behind it or she just isn't used to having a male figure in her life. Either way, it is none of my business unless you want to tell me."

How is it that I found two perfectly sweet guys? I feel like something is bound to go wrong. Things already did kind of go wrong with Rylan, but that was not due to me. That was due to his rude attitude and the fact that he keeps seeing me as a woman who would become an office whore. I doubt that going out with Luke tonight proved him wrong in anyways about that. I cleared my head.

"I might tell you one day. It's just a lot to put on a person I have only known for two days now."

"I understand. So I saw office slut one in your office today. I only caught the end of the conversation. What happened there?"

"She saw me get off the elevator with Mrs. Masters and she said that I got in good with her already and wanted to know how I did it. I am going to take it that Mrs. Masters does not like the office sluts."

"Oh goodness no. She wants them fired, but she has no real reason to do it. She is waiting for them to mess up somehow. So far they do their jobs well so there is no reason to fire them."

"What a shame. I would not miss them if they go."

Luke laughed and I soon joined in. I am glad Emmie was watching a movie on my phone with headphones so she did not hear the conversation. I do not want to explain to Emmie what a slut is just yet.

"Elizabeth, can I ask what happened to Emmie's eye?"

"A kid punched her in the face."

"WHAT?! Why?"

"She was being teased for not having a dad and she stood up for herself. The kid then in return punched her."

"Why isn't he in her life?"

"When he found out I was pregnant he was not happy. He didn't want a baby. He told me he was too young to be tied down to a mistake."

"That is horrible, but for what it is worth, I think you have done a great job at raising her."

"Thank you. I do try my best."

We pulled into the restaurant parking lot and got out. I had this odd feeling, but I shook it off. We walked in and got a table immediately.

"So how is work treating you so far?"

"Pretty good. I can't complain. The work is not that hard. I still have to speak to people in the finance department about some things, but I can do that tomorrow or later this week."

"That is good to hear. So a little more personal question now. Do you date?"

"Luke, I-"

"No wait. I am not asking you out. I mean you are gorgeous and all, but I have my sights set on someone. I just wanted to know if you date because I know a few people who might suit you very well."

"I want to date. It's just, you saw how Emmie reacted to you. There was some issues in the past with a relationship that made her not trust guys and I am afraid that she won't take too well to a new guy in my life. Not yet anyways."

"Maybe you should give it a go? You don't have to introduce Emmie to him right away. Go on a few dates, mention you have a child and that you aren't ready for her to meet him yet and see where it goes."
