Soft taps sounded on the roof. I slid on my shoes and looked out the kitchen window. Rain fell down. I sighed. Rain could stop the rebuilding if it got hard enough. I trudged back to my room and pulled on a tunic and my big dark blue billowy pants. I grabbed a small piece of bread and shoved it in my mouth as I tied my boots. I opened the door, swallowing my breakfast. I ran through the rain to Jared’s house where I was meeting him. He opened the door as I approached. Water dripped down my back as it poured out my hair. Before he shut the door, I wrung out my hair out the door, it getting wet again in the process. “Good Morning Sunshine! Nothing stops you does it?”
I smiled. “Nothing stopped Waterlily either, and it my job to remember that and take it as an example to what I should do with my life now.”
“You’re talking like she’s never coming back.”
“If you haven’t noticed Jared, Twenty-four kids go in and only one comes out.”
“I know Mist, We’ve been learning about this for years. But she will come back. She’s strong and with some work she can probably even learn to hunt down the other tributes. That’s her job right now and it has been her job since your father died. It’s your job too.”
I was silent for a minute then I changed the subject. “It looks like it’s lighting up out there, let’s get out there and work!”
Jared nodded and grabbed a pack of black shingles. “To the rooftop!”
“To the rooftop!”
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Rain and sweat poured down my face as I put on the last shingle. I knew that behind the clouds, the sun had just started its slow decent down the sky.
Jared ran the back of his hand across his forehead. “Whew! Shingling in the rain is sure hard! I’m glad that’s over. Let’s go see if my mom has any lunch!” He scurried down the ladder the shingle bags on his hand. When he reached the bottom, I started my descent. As each of my feet went down the rungs, I started thinking more about my sister. Was she nervous? Scared? What was she doing? As the toe of my boot touch the soggy ground, I slipped. I flung arms out and turning to fall on my side. The tall ladder followed my down landing in me once I touched the ground. Concern crossed Jared’s face as he turned to look at me, but I smiled and quickly stood back up. The ladder fell back down to the ground. Mud covered my body. I could feel it oozing down my back and through my hair. I shivered. The mud was cool, just as the rain washing it away was. I picked up the ladder and walked around the front of the house. “Watch out Mist!” Jared’s hands were out in front of him, motioning for me to halt. I stopped, but my foot had already landed in the hole he was stopping me for. My body fell forward so slowly I almost died in anticipation of the crash. My head hit the ground, the ladder landing on top of it. The last thing I saw was the terrified look on Jared’s face, the one not only of concern, but of fear for the unknown.

A/N:
Again, sorry for the short chapters. i really am bad at writing long ones. I see that a few people have read at least one chapter, 99 people to be exact. But, I've only had one person comment and that was a swap. If you don't like this, it would be grreat if you could tell me why. This is currently my most read story, but I still feel no one likes it.
As far as NaNoWriMo goes, I am incredibly behind. I wanted to finish this book and the sequel by the end of November, but I'm not sure if that will happen.
Also, if you are reading this on your phone, the only way you will get the chapter edits is to deleted it and redownload it.
Thanks!
Ella
