The only thing I wanted now was to see Waterlily again. She hadn’t been on for an hour. I got up and got a cup of water. When I came back, Waterlily was chasing a little girl through the woods, spear in hand. The look on Willow’s face was one of bewilderment. I took her hand in mine, I could tell that she though that Waterlily was going to kill the girl, but suddenly, Waterlily turned away. The camera followed her as she ran through the trees, jumping over the branches. She was running with all her might and it seemed like she knew where she was going.

The camera switched scenes, and the alliance with those two big guys. A figure jumped out of the trees, throwing a knife at one of the boys. The boy screamed out in pain as a second knife landed in his leg. The other boy came at the invader with his axe held above his head. The intruder dodged the blow and ran for one of the girls. I took his last knife out of his belt and threw it at the girl before the axe came crashing down on his head. Two cannons went off and Waterlily showed up on the screen.

“What happened?” She asked.

“This boy jumped out of the trees and tried to kill us. He almost got me, but he did get Velvet,” The boy looked up at Waterlily from the ground. “We need to leave so they can take Velvet and so that others don’t find us.”

She nodded, “I’ve got some bandages and ointment. Willow, will you fix him up?” The little girl nodded and took Waterlily’s supplies. “I will get everything packed and Woody, could you search out a good place to go?”

“Yes I can,” he grabbed a backpack and left the screen. Willow bandaged up the boy just as the other alliance had done to each other. The arena started to get dark. I looked at the clock on the wall. There were only ten minutes left of coverage before the nights recap.

The scene changed again, showing the careers. Ethelreda was yelling at the other careers. I couldn’t make out what she was saying exactly, but I did hear Waterlily’s name along with a string of bad words and the word kill. River was looking a little scared of Ethelreda, but the other two were terrified, sitting cuddled in a corner. The camera watched them until the screen turned black and the recap came on.

“Hello citizens of Panem! As you can see, we went with a more boring theme this year. Most of the arena is a field, but there are some woods for protection. We have had eleven deaths so far with Ethelreda killing nine of them. We have three alliances made. We have the careers pack, we have the pack with Waterlily and Woody and lastly we have the alliance with the males from eight and nine.

“What did you guys think of Waterlily leaving the careers? Did you expect her to?

“Or, what about Ethelreda killing her district partner? Why did she do that?

“Just some questions to ponder tonight, maybe we’ll see the answers tomorrow.

“I am Claudius Templeton and that was your Hunger Games recap!”

I shut off the TV as Trout and her father got up to leave. They left with a wave, saying they would see me tomorrow. Jared stayed on the couch, but after a while of sitting in silence he got up and left.

Waterlily was okay. She survived the first day and she hadn’t even killed anyone. All I could do now was hope she was going to make it through the night.
