“Umm…hello?” I had a million pairs of eyes watching me. I backed up, hitting the doors. Come on Waterlily, this isn’t like you. You’re supposed to be the strong one leading the rebellion. You can’t act like this. I took a deep breath and walked to the spears. I picked one up carefully, thrusting it in the air. I positioned myself and threw it towards the target. It hit the dead center. I retrieved it and walked back a distance. Running towards the target, I let the spear fly. I had only done it a few times, but still, it hit in the center, not as well as my other spear had done, but close enough. I could see the gammakers nodding before I did it once more, this time from an angle. I hit a little farther out than I had the second time, but I had to smile, it was better than I thought I would do. I was dismissed and I left the room with a smile on my face. I had done it.
I was so happy to be back in my room, it seemed so nice and quiet. I felt so light now that that was over. There was a knock. I opened the door to find Finnick. I smiled, “Hey Finnick!”
“Hey, how did it go? I haven’t talked to you lately.”
“Pretty good, surprisingly.”
“Are you getting along well with the other careers?”
I laughed, “I don’t think that’s possible.”
He smiled, “That District two girl bugging you guys?”
“Yeah. She’s really helpful though. She is definitely good.”
“One of the best that will ever be in the games, but I know you’re smart enough to beat her. You can take her out. You just have to outsmart her.”
I nodded, “I will certainly try to get her out.”
“What works really well is taking her out when she’s on guard.”
“That’s true, I see that a lot. I’ll do that.”
“Do it quick as you can, if you can get your allies to go along with it, you can save them for later.”
“You’re talking as if their food!”
He shrugged, “I guess I am.” The room was silent for a minute. “Well, it’s almost time to eat. They’re down to the last few tributes. After you eat you have to meet back here with Reggi before the interviews.”
I nodded and her turned and left. I followed him out the door and sat down in the living room. River sat at the other end of the couch.
“Okay you two, how did it go?” May’s voice was surprisingly similar to Ethelreda’s. I had never really noticed it, almost like they were related.
River looked at me, waiting for me to answer first. “I did pretty well hit the target in the middle every time.”
May turned to River. “Mine didn’t go to well. I only hit the target once. So, I changed stations. I’m quite good with the net.”
“A net? What did you do with a net?”
“Made a trap.”
“What kind of trap?”
River shrugged, “I just made something up, and it worked.”
“How do you know if it worked?”
“I ran towards it and trapped myself.”
“Purposely?” May looked rather surprised at what he said he did, though I was too.
“Yeah, I cut myself out of it too.”
“I guess you did fine then.”
“Yeah I guess so.”
Finnick cut the conversation off. “It’s time to eat. Eat fast so you can meet with your stylists!”
River and I nodded and left the room. Time was going so fast here, and there was no way of stopping it.
