"Adrienne?" Harry blurted. "What are you —,"
"I'm sorry," she said, tucking her stupid hair behind her ear after the nurse left quietly. "I knew they wouldn't let me in if I wasn't family."
Harry became visibly uncomfortable, shifting under the sheets and tightening his grip on my hand. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to see how you were. I saw the nasty hit you got. Are you okay?"
"'M fine," he muttered.
She pursed her lips and nodded, glancing to me for a moment before looking back at Harry. "Can I — uh, can I speak to you alone?" Her eyes flashed towards me and I felt my blood boiling. I looked down at Harry and he shook his head.
"No, whatever you have to say to me, you can say I'm front of Vivian." He said, refusing to lighten the grip around my fingers.
She sighed and picked at her fingernails. "Okay, um, I just want to start by saying that I'm sorry. I know our relationship ended on a very bad note because of me. . ."
I refrained from rolling my eyes, biting my cheek so I didn't say anything I'd regret later.
"I just want us to be friends again." She continued. "I hate having this bad blood between us."
I looked down at Harry, who simply held his gaze with Adrienne with such distaste in his eyes. "You used me, Adrienne," he said. "I don't want to be your friend if you're going to just do the same things you did before."
"I'm with Alex now," she said. "I'm not going to —,"
"That makes it better," Harry rolled his eyes. "My ex-girlfriend with my teammate who's trying to jeopardize my career. Who would've thought?"
Adrienne stopped and frowned, looking between us. "Alex what? What are you talking about?"
Harry groaned softly, as if regretting his sudden outburst. "He's literally sent hit-men after me. He also paid Fionn to hit the baseball at me."
Adrienne seemed unphased, crossing her arms and looking away from the both of us. "It doesn't seem possible for your own teammate to sabotage your career."
"If it means becoming the most valuable player, then yes, it's possible." Harry muttered.
Adrienne was silent for a moment, biting her lip and then saying, "Well, I'd better go. At least sleep on the whole forgiveness thing."
"No promises." Harry said flatly, and she turned on her heel before exiting the room.
"Well, that was fûcking weird." I said as I pulled the chair closer to the bed and sat down next to him.
"What, her being here?"
"No, well, yeah, that's a start. But I meant how she reacted when you told her about Alex. You don't think she knows, do you?"
"I doubt it; she doesn't really pay attention to anything other than her Instagram follower count." He said with a roll of his eyes. "I don't want to talk about it anymore."
I sighed through my nose and waited a moment before bringing his hand to my lips and gently kissing the back of his hand. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"I'm not dying, Viv," he chuckled, cringing at the sudden pain. "It's just a rib."
"It could've punctured your lung, couldn't it?"
"I can survive with one. . . I think."
"You're the worst." I laughed.
