Leah's P.O.V.
I hadn't been sitting on the park bench long when someone dangled a to-go cup of coffee in front of my face. I looked over from where Grace was playing tag with some other kids to Chris. She was holding two large paper coffee cups.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" I asked, grinning.
"Usually when I bring you coffee." Christine said as she handed me one of the steaming hot cups. She sat down next to me on the bench and took a sip of her drink.
"Have you finally joined the rest of us coffee drinkers?" I asked jokingly.
Chris shook her head. "Hot chocolate. I don't see how you can drink coffee."
"Keeps me alive." I told her.
"Yuck." She said, making a face. "So what's the big news? I know you didn't kill Dean, I saw him before I left this morning. He was passed out in front of the TV."
I laughed, trying not to feel nervous. "I want to hear what you had to say first. I've been thinking about it all morning."
Christine reached into the front pocket of her jeans and pulled a ring out.
"Wouldn't it be weird for Sam if we got married?" I asked.
She slipped the ring on her left ring finger after rolling her eyes. "Not if I already said I'd marry him."
I set my coffee on the ground beside my feet before throwing my arms around Christine. "I'm so happy for you! How did he propose? I bet it was romantic. Sam has always had a knack for romantic stuff."
"Well, it would have been romantic. But it was definitely a surprise."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, arching an eyebrow.
Christine chuckled. "Oh, it's a very long story. One for another time. Now spill the beans."
"I went out with Danny last night, as you know. He took me ice skating. Which was the last thing I expected, but I had an amazing time. He walked me to my door and mentioned taking Gracie on our next date."
"You've got yourself a gentleman there, sounds like. Please tell me you have a picture of him. I'm dying to see what he looks like." Christine smiled mischievously.
"I may have told him I needed a picture for his contact in my phone." I said as I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
Christine's eyes widened as she took my phone from me. "Holy shit. Does he have a brother? I'm asking for a friend."
I laughed. "You literally just got engaged."
"Just because I'm going to get married doesn't mean I lost my sense of humor." Christine replied. "Speaking of, you're going to be my maid of honor, right?"
"Of course. I am so happy for you and Sam. I can't think of a more amazing couple."
"It's not all sunshine and roses but for him, it's worth it." Christine said blissfully.
"I think I'm going to tell Dean about Danny tonight. He deserves to know that I'm seeing someone else." I blurted out.
Christine shook her head. "He's not going to be very happy. But it's best to tell him now before he finds out from someone else."
I nodded slightly. "He's coming to pick Gracie up tonight and take her to get school supplies. Don't tell Sam until I can tell Dean."
Our conversation was ended by Mary Grace noticing Christine's presence and running over to us.
Later that night.
After helping unload all of Gracie's stuff from the Impala I sat down on the back steps. Dean is putting our daughter to bed. What must have been 15 minutes later, Dean joined me.
"Everything had to have kittens on it." He said, sounding tired.
I smiled at him. "Sounds about right. She still misses Luna."
"Oddly enough, so do I."
"I knew she'd grow on you." I told him, poking his shoulder.
"I still remember getting that fur ball out of the tree. You were so damn happy when you got her." Dean reminisced.
"That was a good day." I agreed.
It's now or never. I don't want to ruin this moment, but we shouldn't be having moments like this anymore anyway. I can't end up back with Dean, at least not right now. I need to see how things work out with Danny.
I took a deep breath and turned to Dean. My stomach started rolling at the thought of what I was about to do. "I have to tell you something." I said calmly.
"What's up?" Dean asked.
"I took Mary Grace to a birthday a couple days ago. I met a guy there, and I went on a date with him last night. I think I'm going to be seeing him regularly, he's a really good guy. Grace thinks he's wonderful." I explained.
Dean tensed up before I could finish talking. I could practically feel the anger coming off of him. He moved faster than I've ever seen. He fought monsters slower than that. Before I could register what was happening he was walking quickly around the house, to his car.
I jumped up and ran after him. I'm not sure why, I needed him to respond. He'd never ran off like this.
"Dean! Say something, please!" I yelled over the engine of the Impala. He'd already got the car started.
He never even looked at me as he backed the car up into the empty street and sped away. Leaving me in the driveway gaping like an idiot.
