Danny looked from Dean's arm around my waist, to the murderous look on Dean's face.
"Oh. I see." Danny said, looking dejected.
I pushed Dean's arm away and glared at him before turning back to Danny. "It's not like that."
"No, I get it." Danny said, shaking his head. He turned and started to head back to his car parked in the street.
Despite the look on Dean's face I followed. "Danny, please stop. Dean is only here because of Grace. Nothing happened between us. I swear."
Danny studied me for a moment before he relaxed. "I believe you."
I glanced back at Dean to see the muscles in his jaw clenched tight. I don't want to hurt him. But I can't hide my relationship with Danny from him.
Looking back to Danny I took a deep breath. "I... I love you too." I confessed.
"I see you've made your choice, then. Next time you need someone to pick you up off the floor, don't come crying to me!" Dean said angrily from behind me. He stomped off towards the Impala parked in my driveway.
I didn't follow him. I wanted so badly to, but I stopped myself. Dean hesitated for a moment before getting in the Impala and speeding away. Almost like he was waiting on me to go after him, but not this time.
I ran a hand down my face before turning back to face my boyfriend. "Wanna come in for a drink or something?" I asked.
Later that day.
I stood in a wedding dress boutique looking through a rack of dresses for Christine to try on. She stepped out of the dressing room wearing a sleeveless mermaid style gown covered with lace. She did a turn for me before inspecting her reflection in the mirror.
"I like that one. Shows off your hips." I told her, trying to sound more enthusiastic than I felt.
Chris nodded. "It's harder to walk in than the others, though." She looked up from her reflection to mine. "Everything okay, doll?"
"I'm fine, don't worry about me. Enjoy your moment." I responded.
"I can't enjoy wedding dress shopping if my maid of honor is in distress. What happened?"
"It's a really long story." I said, trying to avoid it.
Christine turned around to face me, a steely look of determination on her face. "If you don't spill the beans I will pick the ugliest dress in this store for you to wear at my wedding. If there's not one ugly enough I'll design it myself."
I laughed despite myself. "Well, I can't have that." I said before launching into the latest crazy happenings in my life.
When I had finished filling her in we were seated on a couch in the middle of the shop. Christine was still wearing the mermaid gown from before.
"Holy shit." She said, her mouth hanging open in shock.
I nodded. "It was not fun."
"It doesn't sound like it. So you love Danny, eh?"
"He's wonderful. Always there for me and Grace. Someone you can depend on, always responsible, you know?" I responded.
"All the things Dean WInchester usually isn't." Christine said as she got up and started looking at dresses. "But you've gotta give him credit. He's been doing a hell of a lot better. Especially taking care of Gracie like he did. If this had been a year ago he would have called me and Sam to watch Grace."
"I know. He's been great these past few months."
There was a moment of silence as Chris compared two dresses side by side. Then she looked back up at me. "You know I'll always give it to you straight, right?"
I nodded my head. "One of the many reasons I love you."
"Honestly, I love Dean. He's going to be my brother-in-law and I live with him, so I know how difficult he is. I always loved the way the two of you went together. But you need to distance yourself from him for a while. Romantically anyway. He's just going to keep getting angry about you and Danny. Maybe not every single time, but one of these days he's going to blow up like he sometimes does and someone is going to get hurt. I just hope It's not you or Gracie."
"I will. After this morning I don't think he'll be talking to me much anyway." I assured her before looking around the room for a change of subject. My gaze landed on a dark purple sequined dress. It had a high collar and was sleeveless. It was about mid-thigh length.
I got up and took it off of the rack it was on and showed it to Christine. She grinned at me before taking it from my hands and rushing to the dressing room.
"This is it!" Christine announced excitedly from inside the cubicle.
"Well you gonna come out here and let me see it?" I asked, her excitement is infectious.
She stepped out with her arms out. "What do you think?" She asked.
"It's perfect!" I replied.
The fluorescent lights made the dress shimmer as Christine hurried towards the full length mirror.
"Sam Winchester ain't gonna know what hit him when he lays eyes on you." I told her, grinning.
"Damn right. Now I've just gotta find the shoes. I want to be able to look that handsome man in the eye on our big day."
"Fuck me pumps?" I asked as Chris went back in the dressing room to change back into her regular clothes.
"Exactly what I was thinking." She answered.
Christine came out of the dressing room clutching the dress tightly. I followed her to the front of the store.
"Rowena showed me a few good places nearby for heels. I have a few pairs you should try on before you go shopping though."
Chris nodded. "You have some of the weirdest relationships."
I laughed. "You're not wrong." I checked my phone for the time. "I gotta go. I need to be home when Grace gets off the school bus. Have you decided if you want a bachelorette party yet?"
"If you can find enough ladies for it, then sure. We still meeting up next week to go over everything?" Chris asked as she got in the checkout line.
"Assuming our paths don't cross before then. Love you!" I told her before heading out the door.
"Love you too!" I heard her respond before the door shut.
