Chapter 20
Faye kept all the information she had of Ethan Rakes to herself. She didn’t want Abby to worry about what she was planning on doing; she still wasn’t sure on what she was going to do, and she didn’t want anyone to tell her to stop when she got the chance.
She went back to the waiting game, but this time it was another kind of waiting. She wasn’t going to wait for Rakes to reveal himself like she had been hoping he would do for the last twenty years; she would wait for the next kidnapping and hope he was there waiting for everything to fall through.
Days after Faye had spoken to Kitty, she became main news. Mistress Kitty or Kathrin Holloway was found dead in a back alley of a strip of abandoned warehouses. The news was telling the public the murder was a crime of passion but when Faye asked Colin about it, he explained that Kitty was running when she was shot three times to stop her and a fourth when she was on the ground.
Being the head of the homicide department, Colin was in charge to find the killer and his best theory was that the killer had to have been one of her ‘clients’ who became jealous because of the others she spent time with.
Faye so wanted to believe him that it was nothing but jealousy, but she had a horrible feeling that she was dead because Mistress D caught wind of them talking and decided to take Kitty out before she could say anymore.
Days passed after Kitty’s murder, the police didn’t seem to be trying very hard to catch her killer but thought it best to at least try in case they had a lunatic on the loose. But they had to drop everything when another kidnapping was reported hours after the child went missing.
Faye didn’t have to be in the police station when the report came in, she had hacked one of the computers to monitor in case any cases caught her interest while she waited and boy did this case catch her eye when she heard through the webcam and microphone.
Tarquin Throgmorton, seventeen years of age was taken outside of his school. He was meant to have been picked up by the family’s driver, but when he didn’t return home, the family’s first thought was that the driver had taken him. But while the police were searching outside the school for clues to the disappearance, they found the driver beaten unconscious behind the school dumpster.
Now the kidnapper was demanding a million for the safe return of the millionaire’s son. If they missed the deadline a body part would be found around the Throgmorton manor every hour they made him wait.
Faye’s guess was that the kidnapper was close to the manor if he was going to be able to deposit body bits around the place. But the police seemed to have the same idea; when she managed to tune into the police radios there was a group of the police searching for the missing boy around the area of his home.
The more Faye thought, the more she realised that it would be stupid for the kidnapper to tell the family where he was going to leave body parts and be in the same place. If he was a smart man, he would tell the police one thing but actually hold up somewhere else.
She did a little research about Tarquin; with the many social networks at teenager’s fingertips, it wasn’t hard to find him. He worked hard at school and participated in lots of different sports and clubs, from some things he said online, it didn’t like all the money his family splashed about and he didn’t like how people treated him differently because of the money his parents had.
Now that she had a face to put the name, Faye used the private school’s security cameras to follow Tarquin’s movements around the building before he left. He had his head down as the image stuttered from the poor footage. There wasn’t any camera angles pointing at the cars outside, so at the traffic lights, she scanned every vehicle that drove through for the registration; the boy wouldn’t be stupid enough to get into a strangers car so he would be inside the family car because if he was forced – wouldn’t someone have seen him.
