Chapter 16: First day, last year PART 2

Chapter 16:

"Hey, ____, so what class do you have next?" Namine asked you as she began putting away her sketching pad. The bell that signaled the end of lunch had just rang.

You took the schedule out of the front pocket of your messenger bag. "Hmmm...gym," you replied.

"Great! Kairi and I have that class next too," Namine said with a sweet smile. "Want to walk together?"

You nodded and gave her a grin before slipping your bag over your shoulder and walking between Namine and Kairi.

"So how are you liking it here, _______?" Kairi asked.

"It's nice," you decided. "But Vexen creeps me out and I can already tell that Axel's gonna get me in trouble a lot."

"Yeah, my cousin can be a handful," Kairi laughed. "So do you miss Leon yet?"

Her question caught you a bit off gaurd and you almost tripped out of surprise. Kairi simply rolled her eyes in a friendly manner. "It's kinda obvious that you two have something going on. I just figured it might be weird not being able to see him every day, 24/7." She wiggled her eyebrows at you.

"You're A LOT more like Axel than I thought," you giggled. Namine joined in the laughter and Kairi just grinned.

"We're here," Namine said as the three of you reached the gym. When you walked through the door, a thin man with an eyepatch and a long ponytail gave you a nod.

"Sit over there girls," he said before stopping you. "_______, right? New student?"

You nodded. "Yes sir."

"Here's your gym uniform," he continued, handing you a pair of dark blue shorts and a white T-shirt with the school crest on the front. A picture of a fierce-looking chocobo bursting from a brick wall was on the back of the shirt. You walked over to where Kairi and Namine were sitting and saw Sora and Yuffie waving enthusiastically at you. You waved back. You noticed Rinoa was in this class too. Ugh.

"Hey, ______! Ohmygosh! Xiggy, can me and _____ be gym partners for the rest of the year?!" she pleaded.

The coach scoffed. "As if." Yuffie hung her head and sighed as you chuckled lightly. "Go change, you guys," he commanded and you followed Kairi and Namine to the changing rooms. When you returned to your spots, Xigbar spoke. "Hello, for those of you who haven't had me before, I'm Coach Xigbar," he said. "Today you're partnering up with a buddy to take turns running laps and timing each other."

Sora cheered, high-fiving Yuffie. You heard someone groan. Well, at least you were a pretty fast runner. You turned around to partner up with Namine but noticed that she had already run off with Kairi.

"Wanna be partners?" Olette asked you, holding out her hand. You nodded and took her hand, standing up and following her to the field outside. The two of you took turns running until both of you were exhausted. You were surprised at how fast Olette was and asked her about it.

"I'm on the track team with Riku, Sora, Roxas, Hayner, and Paine," she explained. "Hey, maybe you should join! We could use another girl!"

"Or maybe you should join the cheerleading squad. You'd look great in that outfit," a smooth voice interrupted.
