Chapter 21:
"So are you guys going to the state fair later today?" Sora inquired, tugging on a strand of spikey brown hair.
"Duh!" Yuffie responded. "Everyone knows that passing up on any opportunity to have fun is just plain stupid!"
"Yuffie, I worry about your definition of 'fun' sometimes," Olette replied, stealing a fry from the hyper ninja.
"Hey!" Yuffie protested. You took the chance to steal a fry off of her tray as well.
"Remember, you were the one who said passing up an opportunity to have fun is stupid," you warned her, munching thoughtfully on the french fry. Yuffie opened her mouth to say something but shut it immediately after realizing that she didn't have a comeback for that.
"Well, Nam, Roxas, Sora, and I are all going and I know that Axel and Reno are going to meet up with us at the fair too," Kairi answered.
"And Rikku, Yunnie, and Paine all agreed to come," Yuffie said. "But Paine just threw a shoe at me when I asked her to pay for snacks, so you guys are on your own money-wise." You giggled in response.
"What time are ya'll going?" you questioned.
"Way later in the day," Roxas replied. "Axel has football tryouts after school and he's making me wait up on him before I go to the fair." Perfect, you could make it to the tryouts and the fair!
"Sounds like everyone's going then," Hayner nodded, taking a bite of his hamburger.
You were about to ask what the state fairs were like in Destiny Islands, since you had never been to one before, but before you had a chance to speak, the bell that ended lunch rang. You packed your trash into your brown paper bag and rolled it up into a ball, tossing it into the trash with a perfect dunk. Olette pretended to make the noise of a roaring crowd before walking off toward gym class with you, Sora, and Yuffie.
"Alright, today we'll be playing volleyball. I'll put you kids into teams and you won't complain about who's on your team, got it?" Xigbar announced.
You were grouped with Namine, Olette, Sora, and Vaan. Your rivals were Rinoa (who else?), Kairi, Pence, Hope, and Yuffie.
"Hey," Vaan greeted you, holding out his hand. "I'm Vaan, the new kid," he chuckled. "Came here with Hope, Ashe, Vanille, and Genesis."
