Book 5- Guardian of Nebularis

"Oh, my poor daughter. To think that I won't be able to see you grow up into the beautiful girl that you will be. We will one day be together again." He looked inside the basket with eyes of despair and pain.

"Lena, its no longer safe to have baby Kira here anymore, she has to be kept away from Ceria." His majesty said as he handed the basket carrying the little princess towards me.

"I don't understand, we can put her in the panic room beneath the castle, and I could fight alongside you!" I said. I was sure that the baby would be fine as long as we put a seal on it.

"No. The fog has already overtaken all the parts of the castle. Nebularis has fallen, Ceria has the Queen and most of our army has diminished." He paused for a second as if he still couldn't process all the occurrences that happened in less than a day. He looked devastated. "Right now the only thing I can do is fight and hopefully keep the citizens safe. I can't be there to protect my daughter. So Im sending you somewhere far away."

"How far is it?" I said.

"I'm sending you to earth with the princess. The Queen and I can no longer protect Nebularis. You must guide her to find all 16 stellar keys to save us." He looked at me with the saddest brown eyes I had ever seen.

Please guard her with your life. No one must know of your identities. Show her the love and care that we cannot. Be there for her when she's sad and happy. " A tear ran down his majesty's face like a bag of water had been poked with a needle.

Without any protest, I did as he said. "Of course, your majesty..."
He created a portal and I leaped through it.

I didn't know what earth was like, but where we were transported to was completely white, like a blanket had covered the entire area. It was very cold.

Odd objects moving in opposite directions simultaneously on a road, people walking on the sides and lights flashing everywhere.

It was good that it was dark outside. This way we wouldn't be seen that well.

I walked around looking for secluded shelter. There was a forest that didn't have much white on the ground. "Thank goodness." I said to myself in a sigh of relief.

Thankfully there were dry sticks on the ground so I made a fire to keep us warm. I created a small crystal shelter, but bid enough for the two of us.

Baby Kira was starting to wake up. She opened her eyes and started crying. "Oh no. It's okay little princess, Lena is here." I tried to calm her down, but nothing worked. Then I remembered the small pouch where her earrings were in.

They had a calming effect so I quickly put them on her ears. She slowly quieted down.

I heard a gurgling sound, then I realized that she must be hungry. Summoning a baby bottle with milk inside, I fed her.

As I was feeding the little princess, she looked at me right in the eyes.

A deep yet bright purple colour. Only one other person has ever had those eyes, the very first man of the universe, Astreaus. The one who created Nebularis.

The guardians were the second of his creations and after his death, his soul became the very lifeblood of Nebularis, keeping it alive for trillions of years.

Anyway, how am I supposed to even raise this child? I've been with King Damien science he was young, but I never actually raised him, just a trusted guide. If Earth is anything like Nebularis I'll need to make money and get us a home and some food to eat.

Well, I don't need to eat anyway. After all, I am one of 17 spirit pieces of a tree.

While leaving the baby in a strong sheild of protection, I decide to go looking for places to get money.

Apparently you're required to have a résumé to apply for a job. Whatever that is.

I managed to get a job at a convenience store. Doesn't seem to pay much in Earth money, but I can get supplies to keep Kira healthy and warm.

What I find weird is that everytime I go back to the spot in the forest, the little princess is so happy to see me. She doesn't n't even cry when I take off the earrings, well except when she needs a diaper. She's just all smiles. I think I'm becoming attached to her.

Overtime I was able to sustain enough money to get us a small apartment for 1000 bucks.

It had one bathroom, a small kitchen and one bedroom. All on the same floor. The cost was 200 a month for rent.

Things we're going well for the first two years. I was able to keep balance with the money that came, taking care of the little princess was like cutting a slice of cake, and I was even able to have a little time to myself.

Earth babies are so strange, they wake up with every little thing, and need to be fed many times in one day. But Kira just sleeps so soundly. I even find myself watching her for hours.

'What is she doing?' I was thinking while watching the two year old who was trying to get up on her feet, yet being unable to hold the rest of her body up, leaving her face on the floor.

It was a funny sight, but I figured she was trying to walk so I went over to assist her, but she nudged my hand away.

Slowly, she started to get up on her own, and stood upright on her two legs. Kira giggled and moved one foot right after the other. Soon she was running around the living room.

I couldn't help but smile, I had been with the king since he was a child, but I never witnessed the first walk of him.

I now know the feeling parents get when their children start walking. Maybe I should film this for the king and queen with that new camera I bought!

When I started filming I made sure I got all the important parts of having a baby walk for the first time. Or at least they way earth people do it.

Such an adorable child.

This one moment made me feel as if the order I was given was void, because at this moment is when I decided that It wasn't a duty, it was a promise I made to her and myself, that nothing would stop me from being her guardian.

As I had promised Astreaus eons ago to keep all of Nebularis safe.

I will guide her to victory.

Its a bit short, but this was a filler chapter and I wanted to show a bit of life on earth for the first time for Lena and the princess. 😃
