Chapter Seven
"She's going to be hard to capture," the puppet master said, looking over to the rest of his teammates, "she knows a variety of jutsus and most of them could end up deadly. I’ll have to assume that she has several chakra changes in nature, which means she can utilize many different elements in ninjutsu. This could become problematic quite quickly." A grim look appeared over his features as he continued to gaze at his squad. The puppet master was quite sure that capturing the girl would become a troublesome task, especially since she was protected within the borders of the Hidden Leaf. Sasori of the Sand had a very solemn look over his features as he thought over the words he’d spoken. Sasori’s gaze landed on Deidara, the blonde member of the four-man squad.
"Do we even know her name, yeah," the blonde asked, looking to each teammate in turn in search for an answer. No one spoke, silently answering the blonde’s feeble question, and Deidara merely rolled his eyes as he took a seat on the branch they all stood on. His legs freely hanged over the edge of the branch, his icy gaze searching the ground in silence. A look of annoyance passed over Kisame’s features as he followed Deidara’s gaze, scanning the environment below.
"Now that you’ve mentioned it, Deidara, we don't know her name," Kisame said, acknowledging that fact for the first time. The blonde rolled his eyes once again, avoiding his teammates’ gazes as Kisame continued to speak the obvious truth. "How can we so oblivious..." The blue man was quickly silenced as Itachi spoke for the first time that evening, grabbing everyone’s attention as they focused on the Uchiha.
"Her name is Serenity," Itachi replied, interrupting Kisame and giving Deidara a final answer. The Uchiha’s Sharingan gaze lingered out in the darkness, not meeting a single glance from his teammates. Kisame and Deidara shared a glance, a smirk appearing over Kisame’s lips as a grin spread across the blonde’s features.
"And how would you know this, yeah?" the blonde asked, a look of curiosity masking the glee that dominated his expression.
"If you were listening to the conversation below," Itachi said in a monotone voice, his scarlet gaze directly focused out into the darkness, "you would have heard that Kakashi Hatake mentioned her name quite a few times. Maybe you lot should pay more attention to what’s occurring around you, instead of just paying attention to the girl’s physical attractions."
"Even if that is true and that we should pay more attention," the blonde began, a look of amusement playing among his façade, "I still believe that you watch her a bit too closely, yeah. You’re taking this mission a bit too seriously, hmm." Itachi’s gaze shifted away from the darkness that surrounded the forest as he gazed over at the blonde, his eyes narrowed in a deadly way. The blonde received Itachi's scarlet glare, but did nothing about it as he chuckled from the way things were turning out that day.
"I hope you understand that watching her is part of our mission," Itachi answered after a while, "and if you don't understand that, you're more hopeless than I thought. Rei-dono wants us to learn as much as possible about her, and sometimes I feel like I’m the only one taking this mission seriously." Silence overcame the four men as they continued to sit on the branches above the training grounds, some hesitant to speak. None of them spoke, afraid of what Itachi was capable of doing to them as punishment. Kisame, curious about the rest of the mission, broke the silence by speaking after a few minutes.
"Itachi-sama, can you at least tell us when we are going to make our move to capture her?" Kisame asked, looking at Itachi for his reaction, "I'm growing impatient and we've already been waiting for four days. The longer we wait, the harder it’s going to be to ambush her when she least expects it. She’s forming bonds with the young shinobi of Konohagakure, and they’re going to be there to defend her if we keep wasting our time."
