Chapter Nine

The four men were perched high on the branches outside Serenity's apartment, watching her sleeping form. They've watched her every move for the past five days and they just weren't going to stop until their mission was complete. Out of the four men, Kisame looked the most irritated, having to wait so long for the final stage of the mission to begin. "I still don't understand why we had to follow her all the way to the Sand Village and back," Kisame said, his arms crossed over his chest, "it was a pointless journey if she was coming right back to the Leaf." Just the day before, Serenity had a mission with Kakashi Hatake and his genin squad, which required the four Akatsuki members to follow them all the way to Sunagakure in their shadows.

"Kisame, you don't seem to understand anything, yeah," Deidara said, looking over at Kisame with his wide smirk spreading among his thin lips, "we can't lose sight of the girl. It took us some time to find the right girl with that kanji seal on her shoulder. Now that we know where she is, we can't just let her leave out of our sight, yeah."

Kisame didn’t seem to approve of Deidara’s words as he grunted, still thinking that following the girl was a waste of time. Itachi, by the way, hadn't taken his eyes from the girl since they got there and didn't waste his time listening to what Kisame and Deidara were arguing about. Deidara looked over at Itachi and smirked when he saw what Itachi was looking at. The blonde had noticed that throughout the duration of their mission, the Uchiha prodigy seemed to have gotten a bit attached to the kunoichi.

"Enjoying the view, yeah?" Deidara asked, the grin upon his lips spreading wider by the second, "you know, your brother is a lucky man, yeah. Out of all the girls he could have, he chooses the prettiest one that we've seen." Itachi didn't answer Deidara, but the look that crossed his Sharingan gaze was dark and held the intent to kill. After Deidara got the message that Itachi wasn't in the mood for that kind of talk, he backed down and stopped his mocking. Itachi's gaze went back to the girl's sleeping form and it stayed there. Sasori, the puppet master from the Sand Village, interrupted the silence that had fallen over the men.

"How did she get that necklace of hers back?" Sasori asked while eyeing the necklace around her neck, "I don't remember seeing her go back to the river and retrieving it." Deidara shrugged at Sasori's discovery, not caring if she managed to retrieve the necklace or not. Kisame didn't even respond to the statement, still in his pissed off mood. Itachi didn't question Sasori's words and kept his emotionless look on his face, but in the inside, he was smirking because he knew exacting how Serenity had gotten the necklace back. Kisame sat back against the tree, with a bit of satisfaction written on his face.

"Only two more days," Kisame said, sighing a bit, "and we can get the hell out of this God-forsaken village. My skin is beginning to itch just being around all these people. Now I understand why you decided to leave, Itachi-sama. This village is intolerable, and I find it strange how we’ve yet to be discovered.” Deidara couldn't help but smirk to what Kisame had said and nodded in agreement. Sasori didn't say anything because nobody had responded to his question and he didn't like that he was being ignored, so he decided to stay quiet. Itachi didn't say anything either, like usual, but he wasn't as excited as Kisame about the mission almost being over.

I woke up the following morning around eight o'clock and all my energy had returned. Sometimes, I wondered why I always regenerated my chakra so quickly, but I could never find a reasonable answer to my personal question. I slowly got out of the bed, still enjoying the comfortable sleep that I had as I slipped my legs over the edge of the bed. As soon as I sat up on the bed, I noticed that I was still in my clothes from the day before. I stared at the clothes with a bit of confusion and I remembered that the night before, I was too tired to change into my pajamas.
