Chapter Ten

Sasuke Uchiha | Dream

I was surrounded by darkness, not able to see anything around me. I had no idea where I was and that sparked a small amount of agitation within me; the unknown was enough to irritate me to no end. As if on cue, a cruel laugh was heard around me. I quickly spun around to see if I could pin-point the location of the laugh, but it was nearly impossible. The laugh was coming from every direction, echoing around me and filling me with its dreadful drawl. A voice was heard from behind me and I turned around to see the image of Orochimaru appearing out of thin air. He had a wicked smirk on his face.

"Sasuke, I know what you want," Orochimaru hissed in his mocking voice, "and I can help you obtain all the power that you want. All you have to do is come and join me."

"I'm not leaving Serenity behind," I said in a stern voice, my eyes narrowed at him for bringing the sensitive topic up. Courage and determination were filling me with each passing second.

"Why?" Orochimaru said in his mocking voice, "because she loves you? If she really did love you, she would have allowed what was happening last night to continue. You’re too young to know what love is so don’t be so naïve."

"She wasn't ready and what she said was right," I shot back with anger dripping from my words, "we were moving too quickly in this relationship and we have to give it some time."

"Or that could be an excuse to hide the fact that she just wants to use you," Orochimaru said, enjoying all the mocking that he was putting me through.

"Serenity would never use me," I whispered, unsure with myself. All these thoughts were floating in my head and they were just making things more confusing for me.

"Are you really going to allow love to get in the way of killing your brother, Itachi?" he pushed onward, trying to anger me into joining him. My head ached of confusion and I didn't know what to do anymore. Orochimaru seemed happy that he was getting to me.

"If you decide to join me, the Sound Four will come to you and assist in bringing you to me," he gloated, that smirk never leaving his face, "time is running out, Sasuke. My offer won't last forever." I converted my gaze to the ground, not wanting to watch the smirk spread across Orochimaru's lips anymore. His voice faded away, becoming a mere whisper in my ears. I finally looked up to see that he had disappeared into nothing. I was going to have to make a very difficult decision...

I woke up in a cold sweat from my dream. I carefully unwrapped my arms from the sleeping girl next to me, trying not to wake her up from her slumber. She stirred a little, but she continued to sleep on without interruption. I placed my head in my hands, trying to get rid of all the confusion revolving in my thoughts. I looked up after a few moments of thinking. As carefully as I could, I got up from the bed, not wanting to wake up the sleeping girl.

It was still dark outside, but I didn't care. I needed to be alone for a bit, so that I could think things over. I walked over to the window and slowly opened it with ease, not wanting to make any noise. I climb out quickly and closed the window behind me, making sure to lock it. I stared through the window at Serenity's sleeping form. I forced my eyes off her and I jumped onto the nearby rooftops, towards the forest that surrounded Konohagakure. I needed to think things through before I made any decisions on anything.

The sun shined brightly through the window, forcing me out of my slumber as I stirred awake. I refused to open my eyes because the sun was too bright for my delicate eyes, especially at this time in the morning. I lay motionless in the bed, remembering what had happened the night before. A small smile appeared on my lips as I moved my arm, trying to bring Sasuke into an embrace. I just wanted his warmth near mine; I just wanted his touch. My eyes quickly snapped opened when I realized that no one was lying next to me. My eyes scanned the room to see that I was indeed all alone.

Sasuke wasn't with me anymore and a confused expression appeared over my features because I didn’t understand his absence. I slowly got out of the bed, slipping my legs over the edge as I became more curious about Sasuke's whereabouts. I made my way through the apartment, checking every room for Sasuke's presence. I didn't understand what had happened. Sasuke just disappeared, but I wanted to know why? When I stopped to calm myself, I knew that I was overreacting. Sasuke probably went to the training grounds early so that he could get some training done in his day. But what I couldn’t fathom was why he didn't tell me where he was going?

I found myself at the front door of Sasuke's apartment, my feet carrying me there by instinct while I was thinking. My hand went up to the door knob and a frown suddenly appeared on my face. The door was locked and I was stuck in this apartment. My eyes were narrowed as I quickly thought of a way to get out of this place. With the idea in my head, I dashed back into Sasuke's room, making my way to his window. I unlocked it and opened it with ease, slowly climbing out onto the small ledge.
