Chapter Thirty

My heart was racing at high speeds as I continued to chase after Sasuke; he was just a little further ahead of me and he was easily able to sprint while holding my unconscious form. My narrowed eyes refused to leave his back, worry spread through me at the thought of losing sight of him. It wasn’t every day that my gaze was able to fall upon the fallen Uchiha. It wasn’t long until Sasuke took off into the trees, putting more and more distance between him and the Snow Kingdom. My heart faltered and skipped a beat once I noticed the markings that were spreading from the symbol imprinted onto my right shoulder. Chakra was leaking from the kanji seal, beginning to cover my sleeping form. Even with the chakra enveloping my skin, my unconscious form remained in a deep slumber. Worriment filled me at that instance. Why wasn’t my body responding to the angel’s chakra? I picked up the pace, sprinting as fast as lightning. My feet barely touched the ground; determination filled me. Weaving in and out of the forest was no challenge whatsoever, but trying to keep up with Sasuke was more of a hassle than I thought it would be.

From what I could see of him, he surely looked different. He seemed more mature, but if his allegiance to Orochimaru continued even to this day in the future, then there was still a lot of growing up that Sasuke had to endure. His future would have been promising if he remained loyal to the Hidden Leaf, but he chose otherwise. My eyes had been watching Sasuke so intensely that I didn’t notice how much damage had been done to my surroundings. Blood stained the ground as I realized that several lives had been lost here. This had to be because of Orochimaru’s future attack…but now that I foresaw the assault, I was positive that it would never occur. I would rather die than allow that snakish fiend to cause any harm to my people. I grimaced at the thought of Orochimaru; I would never be able to forgive Sasuke if such an assault were to happen. I tore my gaze away from the damage and blood surrounding me as I continued to follow the young Uchiha. Sasuke showed no sign of slowing down.

Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes dragged into hours. My eyes were alert, but my body was beginning to feel numb. The cold air had chilled my skin and the only thing that was keeping me warm was the motivation that bloomed within me. I needed to know where Sasuke was taking me. Jumping from branch to branch, I no longer recognized the land that we were in. The Uchiha had actually taken me out of the borders of my own home. The thought of Sasuke being successful in my own kidnapping enraged me. My eyes flared as I watched him jump below and slow down to a mere trot. I followed suit as I watched him place chakra binds around my wrists and ankles. I couldn’t take it anymore as I charged Sasuke full force; pulling my fist back, I aimed a punch to connect with the smudge look on his face. I merely glided right through him, falling down to my knees. Even though my attack had not caused Sasuke any harm, I watched through narrowed eyes as the expression on his face revealed confusion. He had felt me go through his body, he just didn’t realize that it had been me. The confusion continued to lurk across his features as he averted his gaze back to my sleeping form.

There was something different about the way he was looking down at my slumbering body; his eyes held longing. I continued to watch in interest as Sasuke placed my unconscious form beneath the shade of a great oak and took a seat beside my unmoving body. I stood mere feet away with my arms crossed in front of my chest in annoyance; my gaze was unnerved as a light rain began to pour. Even with the rain beginning to fall harder and faster, Sasuke’s gaze refused to break away. I continued to watch as my body stirred from its slumber; those blood red eyes were reluctant to open, but they slowly figured out what they had to do. There was something wrong about the aura that radiated off the older version of myself; I noticed the look that dominated her eyes and I knew that the cruel world would eventually change me. I stared into Sasuke’s face as a slight smirk pulled at his lips. “So you’ve finally decided to wake up. I was beginning to think that you would be unconscious for days.” Sasuke’s voice caught me off guard by how much it had changed; it was deep and almost…seductive. She remained silent as her gaze lowered down to her wrists and ankles, the expression on her face remaining neutral. She lifted her gaze a second later, hatred spreading into her eyes and a snarl darting across her features.
