Chapter Fourteen
At the exit of the ballroom, I looked back to see that the shorter of the two men was still staring at me with his intoxicating eyes. I turned from them and ran up the grand staircase while everyone else was trying to get out of the kingdom. I could hear my father yelling my name into the crowd, trying to find me among the sea of royals. I didn't answer because if he found me, he wasn't going to let me do what I was planning to execute. I was going to help the ANBU, no matter what my father said about it.
I reached my room with only one thought in mind, to help the ANBU no matter what. I walked into my room with haste, grabbing my weapons pouch from my nightstand and retrieving a kunai. I cut the lower part of my dress off, making it easier for me to move in. Quickly, I tied that same weapons pouch to my right thigh. Kicking my heels off, making it much easier for me to run, I dashed over to the door. I yanked the door opened and immediately stepped aside as a body fell into my room. I stared down in shock to see Prince Mayako's dead body lying in front me.
My wide eyes stared down at the blood that was trickling down his face from the kunai that was lodged into his forehead. His face looked so peaceful even though he had died a horrible death. Wanting to make sure that I wasn't mistaken, I leaned down and tried looking for a pulse, but to no avail. My fingers touched the side of his neck and I came in contact with freezing cold flesh. I didn't pull away quickly, but my frown deepened when I couldn't find a pulse. There was nothing that I could do for him now that he was truly gone.
My hand traveled up to his face and I lightly pushed his opened eyes closed. That was the least that I could do for him at the moment, but I had to concentrate my energy on saving the living. I straighten myself to my full height and I carefully stepped over Prince Mayako's body, leaving my room. As silently as I could, I walked a few steps down the long hallway, trying to keep my location hidden from the enemy inside the kingdom. I turned a corner and I quickly stopped in my tracks.
I was frozen by the sight in front of me, a most horrifying sight to witness. Tears formed at the corners of my eyes, but they didn't dare fall. Raile, the only person that I trusted in this God-forsaken kingdom and my one true friend, was lying on the floor in a puddle of her own blood. I quickly rushed to her side and dropped to my knees, placing her head carefully on my lap. I checked for a pulse in her neck and wrist, but nothing was felt by my hands. My tears quickly spilled out from my eyes.
The only person that meant the world to me was dead and I couldn't do anything to save her. I pushed the few strands of hair from her face and settled her back onto the ground gently. Raile was innocent in every way possible and that was the reason why anger replaced my shock from earlier. The anger rose dramatically inside of me and I closed my eyes. Memories of all the fun times I had with Raile filled my mind and I had to clench my fists into tight balls to control myself. My eyes sprang open to reveal that blackish orbs had replaced the reddish hue of my eyes.
I wasn't going to let anyone innocent's death go by not avenged. I didn't care if it took all my life to kill the person that took Raile from me. I regained the feeling in my legs and I took a last look at Raile before I stood up. It was difficult for my eyes to leave Raile's body. It felt like I had been stabbed in the heart when my eyes broke away from Raile's bloody form. I stood up and I dashed back to my room, not able to look back at Raile's body. The anger remained inside of me as I stepped over Prince Mayako's body to open the door to my room.
I smashed the door open, breaking it off its hinges and cracking the wall behind it. I've never felt this much anger in my life and it didn't even compare to the anger that I felt when Sasuke left the Leaf Village. I sprinted over to my bed, looking for my other weapons. I pulled a case out from under a loose floorboard underneath my bed, placing it on my bed. I quickly opened the long case, taking out a katana and placing it across my bed. Sensing chakra behind me, I grabbed a hatchet out of the case and turned around, throwing it as hard as I could towards the door.
