Chapter Sixteen

"What dreams?" a male voice commented, the sound bringing my attention to the far left corner in the room. I raised my wary eyes from the sanctuary of my hands to stare at the figure situated at that corner; there was no surprise in me when my gaze landed on a calm Itachi, his Sharingan eyes burning deeply into my skin. I stared right back at him with the same intensity that could be found in his eyes. If intimidation was the key to Itachi's success, it wasn't going to work on me. At the moment, I was pissed off and I felt responsible for everything that happened in the last twenty-four hours. Prince Mayako was dead, my Kingdom was left in ruins, and my father was left to deal with losing me for a second time... It was all my fault and there had to be something that I could do to make everything better.

"That is none of your concern," I responded rather coldly, my gaze leaving Itachi's eyes. I would have no business with these men and I had no intention of staying a moment longer. Silence lingered between Itachi and myself. It seemed that I had won this battle when I heard soft footsteps heading in my direction. I turned my head just in time to see Itachi standing in front of the bed that I was lying on, his hand reaching out for me. With quick movements that I couldn't even keep track of, Itachi had picked up my limp form and swung me over his board shoulder. I gasped from the rough impact of my body against his shoulder, the breath in me leaving me for a second. It took me a moment to catch my breath, my narrowed eyes staring into Itachi's back.

"If you're not willing to speak to me, then it seems that this is the perfect opportunity for you to get acquainted with our leader Rei-dono." Itachi said, his voice holding no emotion. His grip on my body tightened as I began to struggle against his form, my mind telling to do everything in my power to get out of his grip, but my body was too weak and couldn't respond the way that I wanted it too. My chakra level is low...too low. I can't use my chakra until I recuperate or the end result could be fatal. I smashed my closed fists against his back, but it seemed to have no effect on Itachi. Did he even feel my attempts to escape? Or were my attempts just like the rest? Feeble, weak, and bothersome.

"How dare you! You have no right to put your hands on me! Put me down this instant!" I said through clutched teeth, my fists continuing their assault on Itachi's back. Nothing good resulted from my outburst as Itachi's grip on me tightened to such an extreme that I winced as the pain ran through my body. But that wasn't enough to stop me from my struggle. I twisted, thrashed, kicked, punched, and clawed, but nothing was the result. Itachi continued to walk down the narrow hallway as if I hadn't even touched him. So this was the power that thefirstprodigy had obtained throughout the seventeen years of his life? He sure was able to endure much since I knew my attacks were anything but weak.

"You can stop your feeble attempts to escape because I'm not going to put you down just yet." Itachi finally spoke, his voice still in its monotone state. His words brought me to a stop. Feeble? Is that what he thought of me? Automatically considered weak because I was a woman and men were physically stronger than us. How I hated that stereotype and how I always had to prove myself to others, especially men. I allowed my body to go limp against his shoulder, knowing that no matter how much I struggled to free myself, I just couldn't win in the state that I was in. But if I waited until my strength returned back to its peak, that would be another story...

The silence weighed down on my body as Itachi continued to make his way to wherever this Rei-dono was situated. Who was the man that wanted to make my acquaintance? Whoever he was, I couldn't care less. I was going to make sure that I didn't even get the chance to meet him. The candlelight torches that illuminated the hallway left eerie shadows dancing across any surface. I watched as the shadows darkened Itachi's facial features, making him even more mysterious, if that was even possible. Itachi made a turn at an intersection of hallways and I was left in awe at how big this place could be. It seemed that we had been walking for years when Itachi finally stopped in front of a handsome pair of grand oak doors. I watched with interest as Itachi knocked on the door twice and then, waited for an answer in return.
