Chapter 32 – Teacher's pet
That day, I had successfully broken a curse, but received no praise for it. Instead, just because I happened to ride away on top of the dragon that had torched the newly freed city to the ground, I was accused of having led it do the aforementioned evil task. But, who could really blame a formerly imprisoned dragon from letting out its pent-up anger? Besides, no one died that day. History really has a weird way of writing itself...
Anyway, with the flaming city nothing but a mix of red and smoke in the distance, we rode atop the large Alcander, my undead creature army trailing a way behind. From the corner of his eye, Alcander glanced back, then seemingly shivered.
"I can't believe you actually got those creatures to follow you..."
"They are surprisingly docile once you beat them up."
I responded all smiles, with a giggle.
"She calls that docile...?"
The smirk and disgust was evident in Felyn's hushed sarcastic whisper. So, turning my head to look back, I gave her a bright smile.
"If you would like, I can make you docile too."
With her smirk twitching, Felyn balled up a fist, but did nothing as Magnus held her back, telling her to let it go. As he glanced at my still perfect smile, he quickly turned back to her and insisted quietly.
"J-Just let it go!"
"Alcander, go thirty more degrees to the right! Hm? What's this?"
As I ignored the furious Felyn and instructed Alcander on our destination, my attention was drawn elsewhere. Finally, I took in the two huge brown sacks that weighed down on poor Alcander.
"This little...!"
Felyn anger was further fuelled, and Magnus struggled to keep the red-faced girl back and alive. How easy it would be too push her over...Heh. Magnus swallowed dry as he saw my face, then struggled harder with closed eyes to keep her at bay.
"Ah! These would be the magnificent prizes we gathered specifically for our fair maiden!"
Edward, who had been quietly dozing off, quickly woke up as he heard mention of the brown bags. With shining eyes, he got up, even as the winds surrounding us rushed violently from the extremely quick flying speed. As if it were the easiest thing, he bowed down, then looked up as he extended an elegantly clad gloved hand, as if presenting something grand – the two brown sacks. His smile twinkled.
"...I see."
"Look! I think this is the best one of all. It will definitely bring out Ellie's natural exuberant beauty!"
Sensing my lack of excitement, he rushed through one of the bags, and quickly brought out an extremely shiny object. Then, extending it beside himself, exclaimed. It was extremely hard to tell which sparkled and twinkled harder – him or the dress.
"..."
"You should try it on, Ellie!"
"That's right! I'm sure it will look lovely, Ellie! A true princess dress!"
Suddenly paying attention to Edward's presentation, both Angie and Felly were excitedly urging me to try on the sparkly dress, their own eyes sparkling as they saw it. Even Ezekiel had woken up from dozing off, and was nodding non-stop in agreement, tail wagging...
I quickly looked away, pretending it was because I was embarrassed. I really don't want to see that anymore... Continuing with the act I had already stared, I blushed slightly, cupping my cheek in my hand and looking down slightly downcast.
