Chapter 10 – A Demon Lord's unexpected task: Uncovering a dark plot (4)
Several minutes earlier...
"Wow, this is amazing! I never imagined such a thing was possible."
Tristan looked extremely excited as he waved his hand in front of the guard, going around him like a curious child and waving some more. Not once did the guard give away that he had noticed Tristan. Because, he couldn't.
"Ah!" The hero quickly put a hand over his own mouth, as if he had realized something. Then, in a hushed tone, "Sorry, I'll be quiet. Just because we are invisible doesn't mean we can't be noticed, right? Sorry."
"Does it look like he heard you?"
At Ellie's calm response, he proceeded to inspect the man, a hand held to his chin in thought. "Hmm..." However, no matter how much he looked, the guard did not look at all alerted.
With a bright smile, he exclaimed, "He doesn't!"
Ellie nodded, "I didn't put a simple invisibility spell on us. There are all kinds of camouflage added to it, so that even sound is blocked. No worries."
"Isn't this too amazing? Princess, aren't you too well suited to be an assassin? Hahahaha!" Tristan joked around freely, no longer afraid of being caught.
Ellie's brow simply twitched slightly in answer as she proceeded so smoothly ignore him, "Let's go." She was already walking into the tunnels.
There were many doors in the underground tunnels, hidden at the end of small dead-end paths. They reached one such door, which was obviously locked. A magic circle immediately appeared around the lock, and with a soft click, the magic was gone, and the door creaked open on its own.
Tristan nodded seriously, "Mm, as expected. An assassin princess! It has a nice ring to it." He turned towards Ellie with a bright smile, "You could even write a novel on it. What do you think? Can I get a cut for coming up with the name? Any story with you in it will be very interesting, princess."
She simply entered the room, "If there were to be any novels made on me, it would be based on a Demon Lord." You idiot. Her true answer appeared only in her thoughts.
However, contrary to her expectations, Tristan liked the answer as he began to laugh and agree, "That's right! The princess and the hero, defeating the vile Demon Lord! We can write such a story once we're finished."
Even as she reached the giant wooden chests in the room, Ellie brow twitched in annoyance. You mean the Demon Lord and hero team up to take down the vile Goddess of Light? Right? Right? But, she knew that he didn't really know about that, and thus stayed quiet.
The same magic was used to unlock the chests, even as the hero sang a weird tune in the background: "Assassin princess! Thief princess! The multi-use princess never disappoints!"
Honestly, there wasn't really any tune to it. Is it okay for a hero to be tone-deaf? Well, it was more likely that he just couldn't come up with a song of his own on the spot, and thus it was simply too terrible.
Ignoring the noise, she proceeded to open the chest, only the freeze.
"What's wrong?" Tristan's shiny face appeared beside her, peering into the wooden chest. "Wooow, golden apples!"
Next thing she knew, he was already holding one in his hand. Ellie frowned slightly, "It's not made of gold. It's condensed light element."
The golden apples shined too bright to be mere gold, so he nodded in understanding. "But...why are they apples?" The hero's head tilted in confusion as he observed the odd apple.
