BOOK 3

Chapter Three – This Knight in Shining Armour no Longer Rides a White Horse!

Silver strings of shiny hair spread across the white silk pillow, her long lashes fluttering across her skin as she closes her eyes, sleep coming at once.

...Or so she thought.

Ellie suddenly opens her eyes.

"Just what are you thinking?!"

In a room of pure darkness that isn't actually hard to see in at all, a shadow looms over her. Doing a kabe-don with a bed instead of a wall, there is a man leaning over her, his hand pressed down into the bed next to her head as he traps her in that position.

A person, or rather, a god, who is usually always exceptionally calm, composed and elegant, actually looks down on her with an unsettled twitching expression.

"..."

Not seeming shocked at all at the outburst, Ellie stares back calmly without a word, causing the god to give up with a tired sigh. He stands up, fixing the tie on his immaculate pitch-black suit. Glancing down at her rather arrogantly, "What do you have to say for yourself?"

She tilts her head as she pulls herself up, sitting on the edge of the bed "...About what?"

A slight twitch of the mouth gives away his held anger as the god controls himself, "Well, about nothing too serious at all. Just a random Ciel suddenly declaring she will infiltrate the land of the gods and permanently kill a certain goddess that has already been deeply wounded."

A smile spreads across Ellie's features, the first sign of emotion so far, "So, killing her in the mortal world affected her, after all? I'm sooooo glad."

The god looks unsettled, swallowing dry as he takes a step back. Still, he maintains his elegant composure.

"Even as a god of darkness, I can't help but feel unsettled by your expression, you know? How do you imagine poor mortals feel?"

A bit irritated, Ellie slightly pouts, "Just who do you think made me into this Demon Lord?"

"You!" His calm act breaks as he points at her, exclaiming. Realizing this, the god of darkness composes himself, clearing his throat as he retracts his finger.

"..." Ellie blinks.

He looks away haughtily as he speaks, "Activating the system was due to your own actions. Therefore, it's all your own fault."

"...Just what could you mean? System?"

He huffs, "To begin with, that system was made as a joke. Such impossible and extensive requirements were given to activate it, it was never even supposed to become active! Who knew someone actually would come along and fulfill each and every one?! Now, who knows how the world will be affected?! Since it's autonomous and self-growing, it could make any combination of decisions!"

"...Are you telling me you made it?"

The god clears his throat, looking slightly embarrassed, "It was just a simple pastime. A hobby. A joke. It wasn't just me...But, I did help out a little. It was the pet project of the god of knowledge and his subordinate god of games, and it seemed interesting...I might have creatively helped out a little. Ahem!"

Is it ok for a god to play around like that?"..."

Seeing the look of judgement in Ellie's eyes, "Well, almost all gods cooperated and helped out! There were a number of ways for it to activate, one more impossible than the next...The most impossible being the Demon Lord route..." He stares at Ellie deeply, now judging her with narrowed eyes.
