Chapter 38 – The many faces of a Demon Lord

As I watched the soft clouds slowly drifting outside the classroom window, I sighed. The only thing I could think of was how bored I was. I glanced at the teacher, busy explaining away something I had already learned in much greater detail in a book. Maybe I should just bring a bunch of books in from the library and do that in class instead? So bored...Aaaah...

It was mental agony. Because of the competition, I had decided to stay longer. However, with my learning speed, it became too much time and...I'm so bored! Damn it!

"Miss Ellie, can you come up and solve this spell, filling in the missing areas?"

My head snapped towards the teacher as he called my name. Quickly analyzing the board, I immediately figured out the solution. When I reached the board, I already knew what needed to be written, my hand flying across the board and filling in all the missing pieces in a flash.

As the teacher observed my speed, his expression grew more and more amazed with each stroke of my hand, until finally he nodded approvingly in satisfaction.

"That's right! It's correct! However, everyone, this is an advanced spell that would require more magic than most of you currently possess, so we will not attempt to activate it today- eh?"

I turned, my confused face meeting the teacher's dumbfounded one. My finger was already in the air, having completed the circle. I had done it automatically in my bored state, and once he had said those words it was already too late. Still with eyes locked on to the teacher's, the spell activated. I blinked. Oops?

As if by itself, it glowed and floated up to the classroom's ceiling, expanding to cover the room. The light grew brighter and brighter, everyone's faces growing more and more shocked, until a soft warmth enveloped everyone, and the room looked pure white. When it died down, shocked "eh?!"s were heard all around. The students looked at each other, examining each other's backs and exclaiming "no way!"

A whiteness so pure it was blinding, the softest and fluffiest texture, as if many little clouds had joined together to shape them...

"T-Teacher...Your back..."

"Eh?"

Looking like a shocked, blushing school girl, the nerdy glasses wearing teacher pressed his cheeks together and exclaimed cutely, the small wings on his back flapping as he floated a few centimeters above ground.

"..."

Not knowing how to react, I stared blankly. Is everyone in this world an idiot?

I swiftly turned around, facing the door. Behind me, I could hear the excited screams of my classmates as they stared floating and flying around the classroom.

"Where are you going, Miss Ellie? We must enjoy this treat!"

Like a child, the teacher was flying around and laughing with everyone. However, when he saw my hand on the door, he called out.

I slowly turned to face the class that had turned into a party. The large white wings on my back flapped slightly, my feet still on the ground.

"Class is over."

That's right. In their excitement, no one had heard the bell ring. However, instead of looking surprised, everyone that had turned towards me blushed, murmuring, "An angel..."

Slightly annoyed, I thought, Don't all of you have wings as well?

Without another thought, I quickly left and slid the door closed behind me.
