Chapter 10

 

Lahat kami nasa swimming pool na nasa likuran ng villa nina Haithlyn. Nakahiga sa beach bench si Nicki at nagbabasa ng magazine. Nagkukulitan sina Kiko at Haithlyn. Si Briggs ay may kausap sa cellphone. Nakababad naman yung paa ko sa pool at pinaglalaruan yung kuko ko sa daliri habang si Kent naman ay nasa likuran ko at nilalantakan yung barbecue.

Katatapos lng naming kumain ng lunch at 2nd day na to ng bonding namin. Halata samin na kanina pa kami nabo-bore. Wala akong ginawa kundi mag-hum. Ang hindi lng ata nabagot dito eh yung dalawang nagsasabuyan sa may pool.

“Arggh! Tigil nga kayong dalawa diyan. Nababasa yung magazine ko eh.” Nakakunot noong paninita ni Nicki.

“Grumpy, aren’t we Nicki?” Haithlyn raised her brow and smiled sheepishly at Nicki who is now sitting and irritated.

“Shut up Haithlyn, you’re annoying.” Nicki said while rolling her eyes heavenward. I instantly glance at Kent who is now smiling because of the scene that these two girls are making. I’m not really used to the ‘grumpy Nicki’. I think I like much better the ‘playful Nicki’ side.

“Hmm. You think so? I think you’re the only one who is being annoyed by us, right? ” Haithlyn said then looked at our direction for us to agree. “Or maybe, you’re not really annoyed. You’re just distracted by our chortles.” Haithlyn smiled triumphantly while looking at Kiko who is now looking at the two girls, oblivious of the cold war that is happening. I think Briggs could feel the awkwardness between the two girls. He switched off his phone and sat beside me. Kent also sat beside me so in the end, im in their middle.

“Hey, it’s getting boring right?” I meddle in. Nicki can easily lose her temper but as for Haithlyn, she could go on forever pestering Nicki.

Nicki sighed in defeat. Haithlyn just shrugged. She really doesn’t care. She’s tactless at times.

“Why don’t we play a game?” I suggested to get rid of the awkwardness that we’re starting to feel.

“Sure, what is it?” Kiko asked cheerfully to lessen the black aura. I looked at them for ideas.

“Chicken fight.” Nicki said plainly. I looked at them for approval.

“Okay. I missed playing it.” Haithlyn jump out of the water and went to my place. Nicki also did the same but she kept her distance from Haithlyn.

“Okay, so here it is.” I explained the rules of the game.

A chicken fight in the pool is like double-decker wrestling. There are two teams consisting of two people each. Each team has a "bottom" and a "top." The "top" climbs onto the "bottom's" shoulders. The two "top" people are the only ones who actively fight. The object is to knock your opponent into the water, either by toppling just the "top" or both "top" and "bottom" together.
