Chapter 4

The next day,  I really tried to wake up early but as usual, I’m being seduced by my bed and I give in so as expected, my most handsome, loving, understanding, yummy and hot adviser *insert sarcasm here* scolded me again in front of the class. I don’t want to enumerate any of the details because it so embarrassing.

That is my routine for the past three months of being a junior. I am always late and Sir Kent would either let me clean the room or he would give me a ‘special’ project. If I say special, it means tons of researching to do. There is one time that he let me pass a written report and take note, it’s a ten page long bond paper. He really loves me, isn’t it? Psh. And now, I’m dealing with my baggage, swim suits, sun glasses and of course the sun block. It’s Summer time baby! I mean it’s my time.

“Summer, san mo balak magbakasyon?” my mother asked while we’re eating dinner.

“Ma, I’m planning to go at Ilocos first. I miss mamita.” I smiled. I really love in there. It’s peaceful because it’s a province. I missed inhaling fresh air unlike here in Manila, polluted everywhere.

“But your dad wants to see you. He missed you too, you know.” My mom said without looking at me. My father runs his business in New York which is a hotel.

“But mom, namimiss ko na rin si Mamita. Besides, I already promised her that I will be there for the rest of my vacation” Well, partly true. But the thing is I didn’t promise. Hahaha. Little white lies.

My mom sighed and looked at me intently.

“Then, I can’t accompany you. I will help your father run his business. He needs some break.” My mom crossed her arms.

“It’s okay mom. I’ll be fine. Nakapunta na naman akong Ilocos ng mag-isa. I can handle myself.” I smiled at her reassuringly. My mom looked at me once again. This time, she stared at me warningly.

“What?” I smiled defensively while raising both of my hands.

“Summer, ayoko ng mga kalokohan mo ha. Baka may gagawin kang kababalaghan dun?” she asked me with sharp eyes.

“Nothing ma. I just want to spend my vacation there. No monkey business.” I continued eating without minding my mother’s glare.

“Siguraduhin mo lng Summer.” She said. Tumahimik na lng ako. Lalabas lng na masyado akong defensive.

“Then I’ll schedule your flight tomorrow.” She said as she finished her food.

“No need ma. I’ll take a bus. Gusto kong tumingin sa mga magagandang lugar hindi sa mga ulap lng. You know, sightseeing?” I said with matching gestures.

“I know what sightseeing is. But why? May kikitain ka sa bus? Baka naman magtatanan ka na niyan?” she said while looking at me again sharply.

“Ma, don’t be so paranoid okay. Babalaan ko kayo kung gusto kong maglayas.” I smiled and walked out from the dining. Whoo! Mothers right? They’re too paranoid.

I walked in my room and called Mamita.

“Yes, darling?” she asked.

“I’m coming. Maybe the day after tomorrow.”

“Yay! I’ll prepare lots of food. Ikaw lang ba?” I laughed. Bata pa lng naman si Mamita eh. Mga 75 tapos kung maka-Yay.

“Yes Mamita. Mom is going to fly to New York tomorrow morning. She needs to finish some papers daw.” I said while looking for my bag.

“Then what will you do tomorrow? Are you okay there alone?” she said worriedly.

“Of course. I’ll be fine. I’ll go shopping for new bikinis tomorrow then byabyahe ako ng gabi.”
