23rd January 1992

We were at George Harrison's house last night. A kind of belated birthday party for yours truly. I hadn't been allowed to see my friends after going back to Paris on Christmas eve. My Birthday went by without recognition by anyone but Joe. My friends had called but were told I wasn't available. So on the 19th January I practically bolted, I took a train from Paris, a ferry from Calais and then another train from Dover to London. I knew flying would be quicker but I was stressed enough as it was without adding that into the mix.

Once in London I sent Coco to her house, my first port of call was Beckenham cemetary. It was Terry's anniversary on the 16th but I had been dragged to the premier of micks movie 'Freejack' in LA and I wanted to put some flowers down for him and dad. Joe met me there and we stayed for a few minutes in quiet contemplation before making our way back to the house we were renovating. Once I was home I called Mum. Got lectured about needing to think carefully about what I was doing. I told her that Iman and I were taking a break for a while to see how we felt.

"She's got her talons in deep son. You won't find it easy to get away from this one. She's cleverer than Angela and Melissa."

Anyway back to the party. The usual crowd was there non of my real friends. No Freddie {obviously). No Jim, I spoke to George and he said Coco had given him a list of who to invite. I barely knew George to be honest so why was my 'party' being held at his place? It all became clear just before 10 pm when Coco peeled herself off me and went to greet someone else. Alan had arrived. The girl was with him too.

Oh my god.

I had to speak to her.

I slowly tried to work my way towards them. I was stopped in my tracks by people gushing about how nice it was to see me. I would say "thank you"..well you can't say "Piss off I want to talk to that girl over there I've been dreaming about her for months." Coco clocked me and came over.

"This way David It's time for you to blow out your candles and make a speech." I tried to get Joe's attention but he was with his friend Ches and his dad Len. Great.

My speech was distracted and I was scolded by Coco for sounding ungrateful. The truth is all through my speech I was watching Alan. He seemed to be telling her off. He'd got a firm grip on her elbow and was talking through gritted teeth. She was coiling back from him clearly frightened. I figured he was the one she'd called dad. Seeing as the other bloke was absent and Alan was treating her like a naughty child. As soon as my speech was over I headed over to where he was. Shit...They'd disappeared. I asked around no one knew who she was or where they were. Alan came back about 40 minutes later ALONE!!! He and Coco were inseparable all night. On the way home I quizzed her. She didn't answer anything properly so I had to try something else. I suggested that she could invite Alan to the rehearsals and hoped that he would bring her with him.

We had been rehearsing for an hour. There had been no sign of Alan or her. I asked Coco if she'd told him he could come. She merely nodded. I couldn't concentrate properly so went outside for a smoke.

As I was lighting up my second smoke for the break I saw his car pull up and she was in the passenger seat..My heart started racing. Alan said something to her then got out of the car. He walked over to me. I greeted him with a handshake. He spoke first.

"I have someone with me. Is that okay?"

"Sure. Call her over." My heart was still pounding I was that excited. I just hoped he couldn't tell by my voice.

"KERRY, COME AND SAY HELLO TO DAVID!" I made a mental note of her name.

She looked nervous as she walked towards me. I held out my hand as she approached.

"Hi pleased to meet you." I was taken aback when she completely ignored my hand and barked a question at me.

"Is there a decent toilet in this shit hole?" I was amused, but stifled a laugh when I saw the look on Alan's face.

She pushed past me and stomped off in the direction of the toilets. I talked to Alan until I finished smoking. We made our way back inside. Alan immediately attached himself to Coco. I scanned the room for any sign of Kerry. Joe was nose deep in his college work. I chuckled at the sight. Only my son could write an essay in a room full of musicians. I smiled then went to tune my guitar. I was almost done and chatting to the guys when my attention was brought to the doorway. Kerry had just walked in and she was completely different. Her hair was backcombed vertical and she had black make-up on. WOW!!! Alan dragged her outside. I went over and spoke to Joe for a few minutes. They had been gone nearly 10 minutes and I was getting worried. I was just about to go looking for them when she was brought back in. He dragged her across the room by her elbow and made her sit at the same table as Joe. I'd already asked him to see what he could find out about her.

For the next couple of hours I watched this beautiful creature tell every man that spoke to her to 'Fuck Off' including my son. So I finally made my way across to her. She'd put her feet up on the table. I nudged one of her Doc Marten clad feet and was rewarded with a 'fuck off'. That did it for me I was hooked. My palms were sweaty and I just wanted to get to know her. I sat down opposite her and chatted to Joe. She eventually became intrigued enough to remove her headphones. I said hello and asked if she was in a better mood. When she nodded I shifted my chair so that I was facing her. I briefly glanced over at Alan and Coco he still had a face like thunder.

"You've wound your dad up good and proper with the attitude." I smiled at her but immediately became concerned after her response.

"He's not my dad. I can't stand him." Okay that reaction was cause for alarm.

I glanced in Alan's direction again. He was busy fawning over Coco so I moved to sit next to her and she flinched.....She fucking flinched. So I moved away slightly.

"I'm sorry love. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm guessing he's not nice to you?" My heart broke for her when I saw tears start to slide down her cheeks.

It gave me all the answers I really needed. I asked her a few more questions and found out that she was trying to piss him off so that he would take her home. It turned out that she didn't like home either but would rather deal with life there than with him. I got called back to rehearsal but I promised her that I would go back to her and think of a way to get her home.
