Getting to know you (pt 1)

When we had worn ourselves out ...eventually we settled on the sofa and decided to get to know each other better on a less intimate level.

"So tell me something about you sweetheart."

"Like what?"

"Anything."

"Well ever since I was little I've been scared of the count on Sesame Street, I only have milk if it's on cereal. I won't have that either unless the cereal is crushed into almost a powder and I have opened the bottle. I don't use it the next day. I stopped drinking milk at home because I was scared of the Humphrey's coming to get it. Then at school I was given one of those bottles of milk at break and mine was sour. I puked everywhere."

"Are you really scared of the count?...Why? Is it the way he says ..One ...ha ha ha ha.....Two...ha ha ha ha"

I stopped as soon as I spotted the fear and tears in her eyes. I kissed her and apologised. I told her that Joe had been scared of the Humphreys too and I only found out he was when I offered him one of the red and white straws for his milk and he screamed and ran out of the room.

"My older cousins would wait until I was out of the room and then one of them would either drink my milk or hide it and then leave an empty glass with a straw in it."

"Sounds like your family are a bit mean love. Right next topic. Music. I played you one of my songs but do you know any more?"

She sat and thought for a few minutes. This was a way to find out just how much she knew about Bowie. Turned out she knew 3 songs off the top of her head. She asked if I sang

Let's Dance, China Girl and Modern Love .

Great the Phil Collins stuff. I told her my regrets about that particular period of my life. She cheered me up by saying she liked the Uncensored China Girl video.

"And when did you see that?"

"About 2 years ago on the Box."

"Which version?"

"The one where you're naked. Your bum was lovely. Still is."

"Didn't you notice that the eyes were the same as Jareth's?

"Who's?"

"Jareth....the goblin king....the labyrinth guy?"

"Oh is that his name. Okay. No I didn't notice the eyes. I was usually waiting for Marvin Gaye's Sexual healing to come on."

"You like Marvin do you? I have some in my collection. We will have to have a listen and dance again. I really enjoyed dancing with you that day."

She told me that she liked a lot of what she called....'Let's get our shag on music' Including Barry White, Solomon Burke, Otis, The five satins and several others.

I gave her a kiss then approached the next question.

"So sweetheart it's time for you to tell me what it is you like about the labyrinth guy and why."

"What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said. It's not a trick question Angel. I want to know what you liked about Jareth."

"I had dreams about him before the movie came out. I had been dreaming about him visiting me since I was 11 but I ruined everything and he stopped visiting just before the movie was released."

"When you were 11. Wow. That was in 1985 yeah? "

"Yes. I saw him on the screen when my aunt took me to the cinema to see it and I cried because I used to dream that he was my knight in shining armour.... when the man in the mask did the things he did. I would go to sleep crying and Jareth would come into my room and hold me while I cried. I was completely in love with him but I ruined everything. I tried to show him that I loved him by doing what the man in the mask made me do. "
