another day, another late fine.

the prices seemed to build up with each individual scroll on his computer.

it was tuesday; kids were running in and out of the library, from the shelf to counter, and minghao was overwhelmed. he had to stop a group of jocks from leaving without actually checking out their books.

looking back over to the infamous clock, minghao sighed. nine thirty-two. the school day had only just begun.

the urge to slide his phone out of his pocket was growing. though the world was against him, and every time he attempted to do so, a teacher of some sort just had to walk in.

which resulted in getting scolded, some sort of insult, and usually dirty glares. it never ended well.

...yet he took it out anyway.

the sound of the doors swinging open again caused minghao to look up from the device. a boy walked in, calm this time. at further inspection (not creepy at all) minghao realized that it was the same, rushed boy from two days ago. he wasn't soaked this time. the figure walked with surprising ease, striding over to the shelves and running his fingers over the spines of organized books. minghao caught himself staring.

before he could delve into the boy's physical features more than he already had, minghao cleared his throat and looked back towards the computer. he knew that the boy was approaching the check out desk-- he decided to appear to look like he was immersed in his work, as if that would set off a good impression. the black haired boy peered over the desk, obviously trying to get the librarian's attention.

he had nothing else to do but look up.

minghao and the student stared for a while before the librarian coughed in the most awkward manner possible, reaching out for the book. the student handed it over, still staring. minghao tried his best to ignore that.

so he checked the book out, scanned the card, and handed it back to the patient student. their gazes met again and this time, completely out of the blue, the boy sent him a quick smirk. his eyes just barely looked the librarian up and down (well, the most he could see from his viewpoint) before his teeth tugged at his pink lips as he walked away.

as soon as the soft click of the doors resounded, minghao whipped out his phone.
