"he's coming over here!"
"i can see that."
chan was panicking. after the cute little wave they exchanged, the two of them were beyond embarrassed. though when they looked back over, the slim, cat-eyed boy was approaching them with a smile.
"you're on your own. i'm gonna go try and talk to that other guy." jun gestured to where the the other worker was sitting and observing the situation, and when their eyes met, the librarian looked away.
"you're just gonna ditch me?"
jun shrugged. the boy was nearing, and with a pat on the shoulder, jun left chan to his vices. he casually made his way over to the desk.
the boy hadn't noticed that jun walked up, due to the fact that he was watching the worker and the small student speak quietly. he stared with a cute grin, one hand under and supporting his chin, and the other still clasped around the computer mouse. his sweatshirt sleeves curled around the tips of his fingers, and his hair fell in perfect partings that framed his face.
jun was staring.
realizing that the librarian was a little occupied, he leaned against the counter and decided to watch as well. chan had to look up a little at the taller in order to make eye contact. occasionally, a few quiet words would leave the slender boy's lips, causing pink to tint over the small student's expression and have him fiddle with his fingers. jun thought it was sweet. chan never seemed the type to be interested in having crushes, being within a relationship, or just affection in general.
he almost forgot that the blonde librarian was there. but minghao had noticed him.
in the time that the two were watching their friends flirt, minghao's eyes kept skidding over to the student at his left. just the way his mouth was set in a smile, and how the stray hairs on his head fell just barely onto his eyes. all of this made minghao feel straight out of a cheesy, poorly written romance novel.
it was at that moment, that jun turned his head. and stared back.
minghao didn't know what to do. what would girls in sappy stories do if there was an extremely good looking boy beaming in their direction?
"hey." the student breathed. his voice was light and silky-- if he heard it again, minghao was sure to simply combust.
"...hi." the chinese boy replied. the pair continued to examine the other, despite the burn in minghao's face, or the thoughts of what to say next buzzing throughout junhui's mind.
jun, having already planned this out, pulled a book out from his backpack before sliding it onto the counter. "i'll be returning this." he mumbled, causing minghao to flush before nodding several times.
"yeah, yeah of course..." the librarian looked over at the book. it was the hobbit-- something he had read over a million times, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. interest sparked in minghao's eyes as he looked back up at the student. "do you like j.r. tolkien, too?"
the black haired boy's face lit up at these words. "yes! i just finished the lord of the rings, so i wanted to read this again." minghao nods in understanding, grinning widely.
"i've done the same...! and with the movies too!" the librarian's voice grew more comfortable as he chatted with the student about the shared interest. since the book still remained on the counter, jun had flipped it open and was pointing to certain pages and chapters, minghao always commenting on things he agreed on.
"is this what you were returning that one night?"
jun chuckles awkwardly, recalling the way he rushed in all dripping and soggy. "oh, yeah. i was kinda desperate to get to the next book...sorry about that."
"it's alright." minghao smiles. "i get that."
as the librarian goes to collect the book from the counter top, their hands brush briefly.
then they return back to staring at each other. jun appreciates the way the other's face goes red, and minghao finds the way in which the student watches him entrancing.
"wen junhui. or jun." the black haired boy, or jun whispers, the sentence doing things to minghao's head.
"xu minghao." he replies quietly.
jun's friend approaches, seeming to be in a hurry. "c'mon, we gotta go. we kinda have school tomorrow?" he nods and looks back over at minghao, moving his fingers from where they barely grazed the other boy's hand. jun looks up and does the same action from the previous night-- smirking subtly and tugging his bottom lip between his teeth, then following his friend out of the building.
within seconds, jun had left, leaving minghao speechless.
