My name is Akaya.
To put it simply, I'm a boy who is handicapped. Paralyzed in my left arm, actually. It's always in a sling since it's useless anyways. I'm different then other people my age, a human living on the planet Metropolis II, a planet obsessed with gaming and entertainment.
I live as part of the Atashibo clan. The Atashibo are expert bowmen, but because my left arm is paralyzed, I've never shot a bow in my life. Also, my hair has streaks of blue in it- yes, it's dyed. That in itself is frowned upon in my clan, but not being able to use a bow, and being left at the orphanage just after I was born - is far worse. My eyes are the color of ice - piercing and full of venom.
Ata is my clan - it's full of a cat-like people called Rinju. Literally covered in fur, with cheetah-like markings in different colors all over their bodies. Also, their faces are very cat-like. Most of them hate me, maybe because I'm human. Call it discrimination.
The second clan, the Hasa, are barbarians. They wear long beards and deep green clothing, and dwell in the mists on the west coast. They look human, outside of their green skin and eight-foot height. They've been attacking us for centuries, attempting to break through our defenses. They live on the other side of the Wildlands.
We live in the Wildlands...the only land untouched by so-called modern civilization. We actually live on the only continent. Most of the great city the other humans built is on huge platforms above the ocean. I wasn't alive when this happened, but settlers flew to Metropolis II via space transport. They found the only continent - where the two clans lived - and set up a base camp. From there, they began to build their city. The platforms attached to the continent and built to keep the cities far above sea level took over two hundred years to construct, and the now planet wide city is still being built to this day.
The city has its own government, and as I stated before...it's more "modernized." I wish I could live there, but I can't leave the clan until I turn sixteen. That's in one year. The city literally surrounds us on all sides - attached to our continent to the point where you would swear you were still on solid ground. The government won't build on our four hundred miles of wild land, mostly because they do not wish to stir up hostilities. That, and they consider it a special place. The place their ancestors began construction on the city.
Occasionally, traders will stop by our village and offer to sell us their goods. I buy whatever I can, I love the technology. So far, I've bought a small light that runs on these objects called "energy cells," a book on the city, and lastly, a small portable screen that plays videos and lets you search for things on the network. Unlike any others in my village, I've learned everything I can about the technology and big city, and yearn to live there.
So there I am. A brown and blue-haired boy with icy eyes, wearing clothing made from cotton and leather. Oh yes, and one arm in a sling made of cloth. Only having one functional arm has serious disadvantages...
