Chapter 32: Cover up
~•~
It was nighttime two days later when Professor Snape apparated into the dingy kitchen belonging to Grimmuald Place where Olivia and Sirius, Molly and Arthur and Remus and Tonks all sat occupied in a general discussion that for once wasn't involving any drama in their lives.
Olivia knew as soon as the man arrived with the usual look on his face that it was time for her to leave her father and return to her fast moving downhill life at Hogwarts.
"I'm afraid we cannot cover for you anymore." The potions Professor said, his tone typically monotonous.
Olivia nodded and cast her eyes down to the table, suddenly enhanced with the ring on her finger, "I figured it wouldn't be much longer, let me grab my uniform."
Leaving for her uniform the room fell silent as Molly grabbed her pre-written letter to her children, ready to give to Olivia to pass on.
Professor Snape moved forwards and pressed his hands down on the table and he rested on them and lowered his voice, "The Headmaster wishes to see her in for questioning but not for a typical interrogation."
Sirius frowned, "How do you mean?"
"She. .doubts her heritage. She's not a fool Black, and it won't be long before she puts two and two together."
"Well we have to make sure she doesn't find out, you're supposed to be protecting her Snivellus."
"I can only do so much Black." The Professor snapped. "Trouble follows the girl and without Professor Dumbledore there is only so much Minerva and I can do in order to keep Umbridge off her case."
Olivia re-entered the room, her freshly washed uniform in a bag and her wand in her boot, "Where does everyone think I've been?"
Snape tore his gaze away from her father and turned to face her, "Your grandmothers to visit your parents grave in memory of your mothers birthday."
Olivia's face slacked as the others around her cringed, they wished to get though the day without the topic of her adoptive mother's birthday come up in conversation. Even to Sirius and Remus the death of the girl's adoptive parents still proved heartbreaking at times, for them to find they were the only two standing together out of the once group of eight. The others being dead, traitors, or their presence being unknown.
"Is it really her birthday today?" She said quietly.
Remus nodded as Sirius stood and embraced the girl tightly. When they pulled away tears had pooled in the girl's eyes as her bottom lip trembled. Sirius' heart broke having watched his once confident, cocky, sarcastic daughter crumble into something more fragile – all due to the burden placed upon her. "Don't cry my girl."
Her voice cracked, "I can't go back."
Sirius placed his hands on the top of her shoulders, "You can, you can do it. Once the OWLs are over you've only a few weeks then we'll all be back together again for the summer."
"But it's too long until the OWLs, with Umbridge on my case and everything about me changing it's harder to lie."
"If this is about you're friends I'm sure they'll forgive you." He comforted.
Olivia shook her head, "We're Slytherin's dad, we don't forgive."
"I spoke with your house members on Friday, it seems they're quite eager to speak with you." Snape interrupted.
Olivia and Sirius both looked to the man before back at each other, "I'll find ways to check in with you, I believe in you. As for you lying to them let's get fifth year finished and we can discuss letting people know."
