"Akeem, you came?"
"I'm a man of my word, you should know that"
"That...." he said pointing at me "is true but where is your plus one?" he asked.
I raised up my suit jacket showing him my gun and gave a smirk.
"Funny man you are Akeem" he said patting my shoulder.
I walked up and gave a firm handshake and nodded towards the other kingpins inside the foyer. I had on my navy blue Armani Exchange suit, black tie, and black Gucci loafer. I looked at my Patek Philippe to see that the event would soon be starting. Taking in the nice home, whoever own the place had to be infatuated with art.I continued to walk down the long hallway looking at the different painting. Admiring one of them, I stop to get a better look at it. Something about this painting was different, it wasn't just a painting it grabbed my attention.
Tilting my head to the side. I looked deep into the black and white painting. Instead of it being something specific, it wasn't. It was paint splashed all over it but if you looked deep into it, you can see the art. You could see the man kneeling down on his knees with stab wounds in his back and tears running down his face but what stood out to me the most was the woman protecting him from what appeared to be wolves. She looked as if she was angry, angry as if she was tired of seeing his hurt but she was crying too. I stepped back to really take it in and look deeper into the picture and seen that she wasn't crying because someone else was hurting him, it was her. She was the one breaking him down.
"Powerful isn't it?" I heard someone say.
"Uh" I said glancing up at the man who appeared to be in his late forties. He too was dressed up in a suit and loafers. His full beard covered in gray and black hairs looking like Idris Elba. "Yea, it really is" I said putting my attention back on the picture.
He came and stood next to me as he observed it as well. "When I got this painting, I was in a bad place within my life. Not only with my woman but with myself. I've done a lot of wrong and it took me a while to realize that and accept the fact that I wasn't shit." He said giving a light chuckle after the last part.
"After getting my daughter killed from living this life, I lost it but I was gone way before then. The way I grew up, my mother, and just finding someone who I fell in love with. I felt as if she used me for my love, as if she knew that I would put my life on the line for her." He said looking at me before looking back the picture. I didn't say nothing, I just listened.
