For the next week Larc was back to normal. He was his caring self and there was no more anger. He hadn't come home drunk anymore since that night and no more bruises. We didn't talk about it when he got home and I'm thankful we didn't. Zander spent the rest of that day checking on me. I could tell he wanted to talk about it, he had a deep concern in his eyes.

"Darling, I'm going to go help dad with some stuff. Are you gonna be okay here?" Larc was leaned against the door frame of my studio.

I turned to look at him over my shoulder, "yea. I'll be fine." I then turned back to the painting that I was working on. I had started selling some of them because the studio was becoming crowded. This one was a copy of one of my paintings for a seller.

After a few more hours I was completely done and went downstairs to get something to eat. Zander was sitting at the island when I rounded the corner. He flashed a smile at me and patted the stool beside him. He had a large box of fried chicken sitting in front of him. I quickly took a seat beside him and dug in. The juicy chicken was still warm and satisfying since I hadn't ate that whole day.

"Looks like we have the house to ourselves again. How's about we go do something today?" Zander arched an eyebrow at me as a shook my head yes with a mouthful of chicken.

He climbed off the stool and grabbed his jacket out of the closet and went to get the car. I quickly stuffed my mouth with a few more bites of chicken then followed him out the door.

"So where are we headed?" I asked.

"You'll see." He looked over his shoulder at me then continued to the car.

We climbed in and drove to the next town over. We pulled up to a fair that had set up in a clearing.

"This is what we are doing?" I couldn't help but to laugh slightly.

Zander mocked being hurt then smiled. "It'll be fun I promise."

We climbed out of the car and bought tickets. Zander led me around to booths to play games that I was no good at. After my third desperate try at tossing the ring on the bottle I gave up and watched him play. We did manage to walk away with two prizes won by Zander of course. We rode some of the rides then decided to go eat.

"That was sort of fun, I guess." I rolled my eyes and smiled at the smirk appearing across his face.

"What did I tell you. It was much better than sitting at the huge house all day." He furrowed his brows then smiled. "My family use to go all the time when I was a kid. My brother and I loved them."

"You have a brother?" I was shocked I didn't know this. Zander had been in my life for two years now and I never asked about his family.

"Yea, Ricky. We don't talk much though anymore. I decided to follow date in the family business and Ricky didn't want that."

"Family business?" I asked.

"Yea. My family has worked beside Larc's for a long time. My dad was one of his best hit men."

"Wait your dad was a hit man?" My face fell I'm shock. I always assumed Zander got into this just as a friend of Larc's.

"Yea, Does that bother you?" He said laughing. "He died three years ago though. Cancer. I didn't want to follow in that line of work so I got stuck babysitting you." He chuckled under his breath.

I reached across the table to lightly punch his arm. This made him laugh harder at me. Soon we started laughing at one another until our ribs hurt. I had no idea what was so funny but I enjoyed it. It was something I hadn't done in a long time. By the time we started heading back to the house the sun was almost gone. We grabbed some junk food out of the kitchen and sat down to watch a movie.
