Zander POV
" I talked to my friend. He said he can have everything ready by the end of the week."
"Okay. What all do we need?"
I could see relief and excitement in her face as we talked in whispers.
"Nothing but some clothes."
I hugged her close to me and stared out the window at the moon.
"We're doing this Edie, we are finally doing this."
"It works perfect because Larc will be gone for the weekend. We can leave shortly after him Friday." She whispered to me.
"Then it's settled, we leave Friday."
Edith POV
FridayI sat on the edge of the bed looking around the room reminiscing all the memories it held both good and bad. I was thankful for both. They helped guide me to where I am today. Even though I don't want to let go I know what we had will stay just that, what we had. From this point on all I can do is look back at the happy moments and forgive for the bad ones. I know it'll take time but for my own sake I have to do it.
I let out a heavy sigh and brush the few tears on my face away. I grab my bags and head down stairs to where Zander was waiting.
"Are you ready?"
He bent down to pick up his bags and led me out to the car. "We have to meet Douglas at the edge of town and he will take us the rest of the way."
I simply nodded my head as I climbed in. Part of me was still scared about leaving but the other part was more scared of staying. What will Larc do when he finds out? Hopefully Zander's right and he won't find us.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when the car came to a stop.
"This is where we have to meet him?"
I looked around confused because we were on the side of the road in a curve with a huge ditch on the side.
"Hey Zander! And this must be the famous Edith we have heard about. You've got guts kid for doing this."
Douglas was a tall husky man covered in tattoos. Some of them which I knew meant he belonged to another mafia. These were people outside of Larc's, no wonder Zander trusts them.
"Just take your bags out of the car put them in that one and climb on in. My boys will do the rest."
Zander took my hand and led me to do Douglas' car. He placed our bags in the trunk and opened the door for me to climb in. I couldn't help but to look back at what they were doing.
They drug two bodies out one male and one female from a van near by and bags in the trunk. I sat silently because now I knew how we were gonna disappear so easily.
"All I need is your IDs to put on the people and we can go."
We quickly gave them over and waited to be driven off. After a few more minutes Douglas brought the car to life and we were on our way. I looked over my shoulder to see them push the car over the edge.
Good bye Edith Novak. May you rest in peace.
----
"Alright, here's one way tickets to London. You're Andy and Nora Roberts. This is the keys and address to your house there. Andy you own a bar that's a couple blocks away from your house, and Nora you're a housewife that helps out at the bar on busy nights. I'll call in a month or so to check on you guys. I wish you both good luck on your new journey."
He gave us a cheery smile as we exited the car. We quickly got our bags and hurried inside to find our gate.
"Are you nervous?" Zander asked while gently rubbing my hand.
"Yes. I'm scared. What if he doesn't believe it? What if-"
"You can't think like that Nora, we are going to be fine, I promise."
I decided to drop it and instead just give him a slight smile. He returned it then leaned in to give me a kiss.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Larc POV
"Mr. Novak! Sir come quickly it's your wife there's been an accident!"
I look up from the dancer that's between my legs to see Vinny some rushing in.
"What do you mean accident?" I ask as I shove her head off my groin.
"A car accident."
"Let's go. You drive!" I immediately started to run towards the door with Vinny close behind.
There was lights from police and ambulances flashing ahead of us. Once we were closer we saw a mob of them. I watched as they pulled the familiar car up from the cliff. It was our car and it looked as if it caught on fire.
No, Edith.
I rushed over as they dragged the bodies out and fell to my knees. I was numb and cold all over. I wasn't sure what to think.
My Edith, she can't be gone. She can't!
"The cops say it was a drunk driver. A hit and run is what it looks like. But boss, they found bags of clothes in the trunk and a male body in the driver seat. They say it was Zander. What the hell is going on? Why would she be running away with Zander?"
That name brought anger rushing through me.
This is his fault! He filled her head to leave. He wanted my Edith for himself and now look at them. Gone. Dead.
I sat there still and silent and watched them work. I watched as they covered the burnt bodies. I watched as they tried to ask me questions. I watched as the car was towed away. Vinny placed a firm hand on my shoulder that brought me back to reality.
"Here." He whispered as he placed Edith's wedding ring in my hand.
I stared at it as it shimmered in the remaining light of the afternoon.
Good bye my sweet dear.
