It's been six months since Larc and I started dating. His friends and he doesn't come in the diner as much as they did but Larc always makes a point to visit me several times a week. After the art show we decided to make things official. It's hard to believe how fast six months went by. The one thing that I've dreaded to do has finally come. Larc called me a week ago to ask if I would come with him to dinner Thursday to meet his parents. Since he was a child every Thursday his parents and brothers in him all go out to eat. Now he wants to make me part of that tradition. I just hope I don't mess things up and seem like a fool in front of his parents. I've been slowly counting down the days of the week but it's Thursday is finally here and I'm standing in front of my mirror trying on the fifteenth outfit and still haven't decided on one.

Finally decided on wearing my blush colored pants and a cream blouse with a pair of nude heels. By the time I was done getting dressed, Larc was at the door. He complemented my outfit as he helped me in the car. We drove in silence mainly on the way there. I was nervous and too deep in thought to carry on a conversation. Would they like me? I couldn't help but to think I wouldn't be good enough for them. The car came to a stop in front of a nice restaurant similar to the one he took me out to for our first date. As we approach the door you can hear a soft hum of jazz music coming from inside. When we entered the lighting was low and warm and the music was coming from a life stage that was at the back of the restaurant.

It had a nice feel inside. I was looking around to see if I could see his parents even though I had no idea what they looked like. Soon we saw a middle aged woman waving her hand towards us. We headed down the rows of tables to them.

"You must be Edith. I'm Camila, Larc's mom, how are you?" She stood up from her chair warmly smiling to wrap me in a hug. "This is my husband Ruben, and my sons Ian and Jared. That's Ian's girlfriend, Sloan."

They each waved and politely smiled as she called there names out. After being introduced to everyone, Larc pulled me out a chair beside Sloan . It didn't take long for his mother to start questioning me.

"We are you from, Edith?" She said while concentrating on mixing her salad.

"I'm from here, New York." I answered back.

"What do you do for work?"

I nervously tucked my hair behind my ear. I didn't want to tell her I was a waitress at a small diner. They were clearly better off financially than I was. It made me feel embarrassed about myself. I felt Larc grab my hand underneath the table and give it an reassuring squeeze. I must have been taking to long to answer.

"I'm a waitress. That's actually how we met." I smiled at Larc and he returned it and gave my hand another slight squeeze.

"Oh! That must be that little diner they're always stopping at on the other side of town. Well, I'm glad he found you. You seem like a nice girl." She smiled at me before returning back to her food.

My doubts we're soon washed away with relief. Everyone was conversating with me as we sat around and it didn't seem to bother any of them that I was from a lower class than them. They accepted me as one of their own and for that I was grateful. This was as close to a whole family that I've gotten to in a long time. Before I knew it it was time to say our goodbyes and head back home. Camila made me promise that I would come back next Thursday with larc so I must have made a good impression on her. As we're waiting on valet to bring us the car I noticed something odd at the corner of the block. A black SUV was sitting there.

"Have you noticed that SUV before?" I tightened my grip around Larc's arm as I questioned him.

"I'm sure it's nothing." He answered bc so calmly and didn't even look in their direction.
