I woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon but I wasn't hungry. Adam had left town, forever, and it felt like a major part of me had left too. I rolled out of Sodapop's bed, we had cuddled the entire night although sometime in the morning he had left the bed to get up. I looked at the clock, 9:00 am, it wasn't too early or too late. I quickly got dressed and brushed out my long, tangled hair. I then strolled out of the bedroom and entered the kitchen where everyone was eating.
"Morning guys," I yawned.
They all, Sodapop, Ponyboy, and Darry, nodded their heads in response, Darry being the only one to actually respond, "morning, want any eggs or bacon? Perhaps a slice of cake?" He questioned.
I shook my head, "nah, I'm not to hungry. I think I'm going to take a walk."
"Alright, bye then," Darry said.
"Bye babe," Sodapop said coming over to give my a quick peck on the cheek, "love you," he whispered into my ear making my skin tingle.
I smiled and hugged him goodbye saying a final goodbye to Darry and Ponyboy. I exited the household and a cool breeze pierced my skin giving my goosebumps. I walked briskly to the park and climbed up onto the rusted monkey bars. The only thing that crossed my mind was Adam. I hated not being able to talk with him everyday and regretted that I saw him less and less each day this past school year. I had just been so distracted by Sodapop and the rest of the gang, I was a horrible friend. It felt like a part of my heart had been ripped out of my chest and replaced with an empty void, there was a dull pain in my chest that never seemed to end. I know we said that we would keep in touch but with everything going on in my life and everything going on in Adam's, who know if that promise would ever be kept.
I squinted my eyes and noticed a sudden movement. I tensed up. It seemed Mark and Richard and their little passé had been too quiet lately, something was up and I knew this for sure when I spotted Mark making his way over to me. I jumped off the monkey bars and felt around for my blade, it wasn't in any of my pockets and I instantly became concerned.
"Hey doll," he slurred. He is drunk, at 9 in the morning. He has issues.
"Get lost, Mark," I scowled.
"Oh come one baby," he slurred more moving his hand towards my arm, I slapped it away, "leave your dumb Greaser boyfriend. You can have me." He added in a wink.
"Who would ever want you?" I growled angered by his insults to Sodapop.
"Lots of girls want me," he said while breathing his breath that smelt greatly of beer in my face. I scrunched up my nose in disgust trying to push him away from me. In a second he wrapped his arm around my waist and gave my butt a tight squeeze while he planted his lips on my neck. I gasped and frantically tried to get him off of me but to no avail, he was so much heavier and stronger than me that I simply couldn't shove his body weight off of me.
"Get off of me!" I screamed and began hollering for help. He shushed me and pushed me into a nearby alley way. I began to sob. He ran his hands in between my thighs and inched them up until his hands danced with my panties.
"Katy?" I heard a voice speak out. Mark also heard this voice and ran off in the opposite direction. I let out a
huge breath, tears stinging my eyes. I dropped to my knees, it almost happened again. "Oh my god, I'm going to pound his face in next time I see that kid," a voice I recognized as Dallas's growled. He engulfed me in a big hug as I sobbed my heart out beginning to panic. Only Adam could calm me down durning an attack, how am I supposed to calm down now? But as Dally began to stroke my hair softly my breathing slowed and the tears stopped coming. Nothing happened, he didn't rape me, and I have Dally to thank.
