David's P.O.V.

"Baby, you ready?" I call out to Liza.

"Yea, I gotta find my purse first!" She calls down the hall.

A couple seconds later, she walks out of the bedroom. I sling my arm around her, keeping her close. "So... where are we going?" Liza asks as I hope the car door for her.

"You'll see, it's a surprise." I fiddle with the tiny box in my pants pocket. In it, holds the key to my heart, the key to sign my life away.

"It must be expensive, you're wearing a suit. The only time I've seen you in a suit was at Josh's wedding." Oh boy, little does this woman know. I pull out of the driveway, en route to Liza's favorite dinner place, Providence. It's super pricey, but Liza's worth every penny, and more.

"David! You did not!" Liza says as I pull into the parking lot of Providence.

"I didn't we're going to the Taco Bell next door." I say and she gives me a look. "Just kidding, happy birthday baby."

I hold out my hand and we walk into the restaurant. "Hello, welcome to Providence. Do you have a reservation?" The hostess asks, glancing up from the stand.

"Yes, it's under 'Dobrik'." She nods before grabbing two menus and leading us into the dining area. I reserved a table with a beautiful view of the water front. Just like last time we were here, for my birthday.

"Wow, bubs. How far in advance was the booked?" Liza asks, not taking her eyes off the waterfront.

"When did we get back from Chicago?" She gives me a shocked look. "But the anticipation has been worth it. I'd do anything for you."

We've just been served our dinner. I got a New York Strip with amazing mashed potatoes and green beans, while Liza got Duck with mashed potatoes and broccolini. She made me try duck a couple months ago and I hated it. She pulls out her phone, "Tubby custard. Tubby tubby custard." Of course, I'm mid bite in my steak, living up to be "Tubby custard".

"Come on, how can I be Tubby Custard, I have green beans."

"Just eat your food or you get no dessert." Liza says, sounding like a mom. I stick my bottom lip out in a pout before taking another bite.

I look over at another table, just surveying the landscape. I see an older couple quickly glance away, I give them a confused look before returning to the beauty in front of me. Since the table is only a couple chairs away, and the restaurant is fairly quiet, I can hear bit and pieces of their conversation. "Interracial couples... disgusting... should stick to their own cultures..."

I am disgusted, how could they be saying things like that? Interracial couples are beautiful, I am reminding by that everyday when I see my girlfriend! The disgusted part of me has passed, and now I'm just plain mad. And it makes me angrier that I'm mad on Liza's birthday. Since we've been dating for so long, Liza picks up on my vibes immediately, "What's wrong David?" She asks, concerned. She reaches for my hand across the table and takes it in hers.

"Nothing, it's fine. I'm just thinking." I look out to the waterfront, trying to forget the conversation I just overheard.

It's not working, so I go back to look at Liza, her eyebrows are furrowed and she's deep in thought. God, I hope she didn't hear the couple. But she did, she looks over at me and I can see that hurt in her eyes. "I understand, David. Can we get the check please, I don't feel comfortable in this environment."

"Ok, I'll get the server." I catch the attention of our server and he walks over.

"Can I get you guys anything?" He asks, calmly, totally not fitting our mood.

"Yes, the check please." I look up at him, then glance over towards the couple.

"Of course, I'll be right back with that." He seems to understand, which is weird. "So sorry for any inconveniences tonight. " Yep, he caught on.

The whole car ride we pushed off the subject, until we got to my place. Where we decided to stay for the night. I open the door and Liza starts to ramble. "God, how could can people be so rude?! I just don't understand it, why does skin color mater so much!" She's mad, I better do it now or I'm never going to get the chance to do it.

"Liza?" I ask, and she turns around. I get on one knee and pull the box out. "Elizabeth Shaila Koshy, you are the most beautiful soul I have every laid eyes on. I don't care what other people think, the only opinion that matters is yours. Baby, will you marry me?"

She stands there in shock. "And make you a citizen? I'd do it a thousand times over if it means you'll be with me. Or course, bubba, yes. I'll marry you." A huge weight's been lifted off my shoulders. I stand up and place the ring on her finger, right next to the pebble from Kian and JC's (KFC's) rooftop. She wraps her arms around my neck, mine around her waist. We share a slow, loving and passionate kiss. I remember to take it slow because of the camera.

We pull away after a couple of seconds. "How are we going to tell the fans?" Liza asks, looking deeply into my eyes.

"I had Joe record it, don't worry." I signal for Joe to come out of where he was hiding.

"Hey... sorry for sort of ruining this, but congratulations guys!" Joe says, walking over to hand me my camera.

"No problem, this'll be something we'll look back on forever." Liza says, running her hands through my hair, slowly turning me on.

"Alright, well I better be going, have fun you two!" Joe calls out from behind him as he walks out the front door.

"Oh, we will." I say, taking Liza's hand in mine.

"I love you so much baby. I can't describe it."

"Hey, save it for the vows!"
