A/N You already know the story, Liza's a cheerleader, David's on the football team. (Yes, I know he played Tennis, but I'm trying to make him look somewhat Athletic. Bare with me here.) They both live in Vernon Hills, it's easier for me to write about since I'm familiar with the area. This story's also modeled after a Netflix show called Friday Night Lights. It's about a high school quarterback who gets injured and is paralyzed. His career is over, and it's how he tries to cope with it. I would definitely recommend checking it out.
Liza's P.O.V.
The girls and I are huddled under a bunch of blankets as we wait for halftime to preform. We know that we should be out there cheering, but it's 40 degrees. (A/N Paradise this time of year, honestly, the high is -4 today. Help me. Sorry, I'll stop.) Plus, everyone in the bleachers is too cold and too focused on the game to pay attention to us. The opposing team, the Hoffman Estates Hawks, are on their fourth down. If they don't get this down, then they'll have to hand the ball over, which means the David gets to come on the field for once and I'll get to cheer for my boyfriend.
David's a senior and is in the works with Northwestern ( A/N The best school EVER) for a scholarship. They're wanting to give him a half ride, but David's a great at negotiating and is getting them to lean towards a full ride. (A/N In case you don't know Northwestern is about 50,000 dollars a year, that may not sound like a lot, but it's a crap ton. Plus, that's only one year, think about it, some kids go there for six years. That's 300,000 dollars, for an education! Last time, I swear.) I'm lucky and I've already gotten a full ride for Journalism and Cheerleading. I know, two scholarships! It's always been my dream to become a journalist and now it's finally happening! I'm pulled from my thoughts as the whistle is blown. The two teams line up for the turn-over. I see David run out on the field, his jersey, #42, moving back and forth as he prepares to run for the ball.
Everyone in the school knows David by his nickname, Usian Bolt Jr., because of how fast he runs. The kicker sends the ball flying and David's the first one to be in it's landing zone, he opens his arms for the catch and it lands in the middle of his arms. He tucks it back in his arms and takes off. The defense is already on the other team, part of the field open. At this point everyone's on their feet, everyone forgot about the temperate and is cheering for my boy. Unfortunately, one of the Linebackers breaks from the offenses holds and goes straight for David, knocking him hard.
The whistle blows and the coach and paramedics are over to his position on the 20 yard line in seconds. I run over to the ambulance as they load him in, already hooking him up to machines. The paramedic tells me to stay back, but I tell them that I'm his girlfriend and I'm coming with him since my car's back at our school. He helps me in the ambulance and shuts the door. The ride the hospital was quick, but it felt like hours as I see the paramedic constantly tell the driver to speed up, that's he in critical condition, that he's probably paralyzed. I suddenly regret going with them as we pull up to the hospital and ten doctors and nurses swarm around him and rush into the ER, and out my sight.
His family pulls up behind us, and I try to explain things to them, but with them being foreign, and still learning english. I have to rely on Google to translate everything for them. Which isn't much since I really don't have any information other than what I got in the ambulance.
