"Emily! Your turn!" Dawn exclaims as she flops on the couch.

"Yeah, yeah, gimme two shakes!" I say rushing down the stairs to separate the two kids. "Hey, hey, hey! Knock it off." I say pulling the two apart. "Now what's all the fuss about?" I place my hands on my hips resting my weight on one leg.

"Mummy, aunty Dawn but me and Matts a toy at the shops but Matts won't let me play with mines." Cass points at Mattie and she sticks her tongue out at him. I can see the little blue and gold action figure peeking out from underneath her baby blue leather jacket.

"My mummy says boys have to be gentlemen. That means sharing."

I scowl at her and she looks away with a guilty smile. I holds my hand out toward her and without looking up Mattie pulls the toy from under her jacket and places it in my hand.

"Thank you. Yes, Mattie, it is important for gentleman to share but your mum bought this toy for Cass. And if Cass doesn't see fit to share, you can't just keep it from him." I examine the toy closely before bending down to Cass's hight. "Hey, hun, this toy isn't fit for water play, would it be alright if Mattie played with it while you wash?"

Cass takes the toy from me, hugging it tight before nodding.

"Brilliant." I sigh in relief. It's not usually this easy to settle an argument between them. "Mattie, can you go get your mum a cover? I think you two have warn her out to next week." She giggles and goes running Luke's way.

"Um, hi." She awkwardly smiles before going past him.

"Luke, could you come in here please?" I call to him and he comes into the room. "Cass, look." I whisper, turning him around. When his eyes reach Luke's their faces lights up and he drops his toy.

"Daddy!" He exclaims running towards Luke and he beds down to catch him.

"Hey, buddy!" He exclaims. Is face is almost brighter than Cass's.

"You wanna prove to us that you're really in this, here's your chance. I need to head out for about an hour or two. Dawn needs some sleep and Mattie will be in her bedroom. I just need you to keep Cass out of trouble. Can you do that for me?" I ask and he nods. I don't trust him but I know I have to because if I don't start I won't ever, even if he does prove that hear serious.

"What do you normally do when you need to head out and your friends is asleep?" He asks as I start looking for my keys.

"Erm, well I'd usually put them down for a nap and set an alarm for Dawn so she'll wake up before they do. Mattie will actually be out like a light in a few minutes. If you'd like, you can stick to that routine and just put him to sleep. Ahh, here they are." I sigh in relief when I finally find my keys in Dawn's rear pocket.

"Okay and how would you normally do that?" He asks at I turn to see that he looks far beyond nervous.

"Just sit him on your lap and put it on the Spider-Man cartoon. Keep the volume low though. If it's too loud he'll get all riled up." I warn. His face goes a bit pale and I giggle. "Don't worry, Luke. You'll be fine. Look he's getting tired already." I whisper and we both look down to see Cass sleepily playing with Luke's necklace. "I'll be back before you know it." I push Cass's blonde hair back and kiss his fore head. I begin to kiss Luke but I pull away. Gotta keep my distance.

"Good luck, what ever it is you're doing." He says before I leave out the door. I only smile in return.
