It's almost 10:30 at night and Calum just entered the booth with his bass. We've been in the studio for hours and I can't keep my mind off Emily and Cass. I haven't heard from them since we went out for lunch. Even then she seemed pretty withdrawn and more focused on Cass than her food.

*Flashback*
I decided that for her lunch break I'd take Emily and Cass our to a Mexican restaurant since I remembered she loves Mexican food, but she seemed to still be bothered by the conference meeting. She even told me not to say a word to Cass until she made a final decision.

"I got us a booth in the back. Away from the windows." I tell her as we follow the hostess to our table.

"Thank you." She says softly smiling at me but turning her attention right back to Cass who's playing with the told stuffed bear.

When we get to the booth the hostess places down the two adult menus and one race car coloring mat and crayons for Cass. "Your waiter will be right with you." She smiles leaving us to ourselves.

Cass slides into the booth and places his bear into Emily's purse before diving into his coloring mat. She helps him try to stay in the lines and high-fives him when he successfully fills in the race car with his blue crayon.

"Daddy, look!" He shows me the finished product and I smile at the multicolored scribbles.

"Good job, buddy. Can I get an autograph?" He looks at his mother with questioning eyes.

"He wants you to sign your name nice and fancy." She smiles but there's a dullness behind it. I need to talk to her. Cass picks up is blue crayon and scribbles a few loops at the bottom of the page before sliding it over to me with a smile. Using the red one from the box and added my name next to his which makes his little face glow and he passes the picture to Emily.

"Your turn." He smiled at her but she was so distant in her mind she physically flinched from the sound of his voice. "You okay?" He asks and she nods with an not so convincing smile. This is it.

"Cass, stay here and man the table for me. I'm gonna take your mum to get some ice." A terrible lie but I'm sure he couldn't care less.

She gives me a crooked look but obliges anyway, handing him her phone to play on and sliding out to follow me. The second we're out of earshot she starts on me. "You always were a bad liar."

"And you were always an open book." I fired back and she looks at me with wide eyes.

"What?" She averts her eyes to focus on filing her cup with ice from the ice station. "What do you mean?"

"You think I haven't noticed that you can barely look at me for more than two seconds. And you're so distant Cass had to say your name twice. Something wrong?"

"It's nothing." She says turning to walk away. She lied and I could tell.

"Emily... You know you can talk to me, right?" I finally ask.

"Of course," she sends me a fake smile before continuing back to our table. "I just wish you would talk to me."
*Flashback ends*

I wasn't supposed to hear that last part but I did and I don't get it, After that she remained silent throughout the rest of lunch. Barely even holding a conversation with Cass. I wish I knew what she meant. I thought this would make her happy. I wish she wasn't so closed off from me. I wish...

"Earth To Luke!" A slight ache rises up my left bicep along with the cool ting of metal. I look over my shoulder to see an annoyed and sweaty Calum staring back at me.

"You hit like a bitch." I shove him standing up from the brown leather couch.

"And your phone's been dead for an hour." He claps back and I look at the device in my hand. I must've been so deep in thought I didn't even realize I was staring at a black screen. "The fuck is up with you anyway?" He asks collecting his bass and walking with me to the lift. I assume our session is over since I can't see the time.

"Just thinking." I shrug.

"About?" He presses.

"Emily. She was so distant at lunch it was like she was on another planet. I thought she'd be happy that Mrs. McRoy took everything so well. Maybe I was a bit pushy but I did it for her." I admit and he rubs the scruff on his chin.

"Did you ask her?" He asks and I quirk an eyebrow at him.

"What do you mean?"

"Think about it from her perspective. She spent four years on the run from her past with no one but Cass. She built a life her and stabilized herself. Then we show up out of nowhere and flip it all. Then you told Mrs. McRoy about your past and your kid. You gotta at least understand how this must feel for her. Did you even ask if it's what she wanted?"

"What are you, my mum? What do you think I've been trying do?" I roll my eyes stepping off the lift when the doors open to the under ground garage.

"Fuck off. I'm just saying, try slowing it down a bit. And talk to her before making any big decisions involving her and Cass. Especially since you're time here is so short. We are on tour you know." He scoffs trudging past me and to his rental.

As I watch him pull away I can't help but feel a little jealous. Who the hell is he to tell me what to do with my family. I let this thought play over in my mind as I make my way to my own car and roar it to life when I get in. The dash clock says 12:17am. Emily and Cass are probably long asleep by now but then again she's always been a night owl. I guess stopping by would me okay.
