finn's heart was pounding out of his chest.

"millie, what premiere?"

she looked at him, confused. "why, the stranger things premiere of course! we worked so hard, i wouldn't want to miss it."

"oh my god. oh no."

finn fell into a chair as the door opened and sadie entered the room, tears in her eyes.

"hey, sorry to interrupt your moment, but i needed to see my best friend. millie, thank god."

millie screamed as the red head tried to hug her. "WHO THE HECK ARE YOU?"

sadie burst out crying. "please tell me you're joking. that isn't funny, millie."

millie started crying, looking over at finn.

"who is this?! finn, where's my family? i'm scared."

noah entered the room. "hey, sadie got to come so i thought i would too."

"NOAH THANK GOD!" millie screamed, hopping out of the hospital bed unsteadily and clinging onto him. "i'm scared," she sobbed.

noah stared at her in confusion. "what's going on?"

millie wiped away tears. "finn suddenly got hot and it's scaring me, this crazy girl said she's my best friend and i have no idea who she is, and now you look different too! SOMEONE HELP!"

noah patted her head, stroking her hair gently.

"what the hell is going on?" he mouthed to finn over her shoulder.

the door opened again, and doctors spilled in, putting a needle into the screaming millie's arm, and helping her back into bed.

noah and sadie and finn got into a group hug.

a doctor walked up to them, a frown on her face. "i am so sorry."

"when does she think it is?!" finn asked.

"well... unfortunately. june... twenty sixteen."

all of their mouths fell open. "that's why she doesn't know me," sadie whispered.

"is it permanent," finn whispered. "she doesn't remember... us dating. SHIT! she doesn't even remember... any of the award shows, or even... she's not famous yet." finn's voice was hoarse.

the doctor sighed. "yes, you see the issue. we don't know it's it's permanent yet. she will probably recall small memories over the weeks, but we don't know if she'll regain her full memory back. she will need counseling."

finn felt his body shake as he looked back over at millie, her body now in a peaceful sleep.

sadie was sobbing. "she - doesn't - remember - me - at all..."

noah comforted her by stroking her hair, murmuring, "let's come back tomorrow, okay?"

sadie nodded. "see you, finn." she whispered as they exited the room and finn realized when no one else entered that no one else was there.

paige wasn't with millie this year. none of her family was here, which would come as a shock to her when she woke up.

"what - about her family?" finn choked out.

"they've been notified of her condition," the doctor assured him. "her mother is on her way on the soonest flight."

finn shook his head in disbelief. "what about - what about filming? or school? oh my god. what about all her responsibilities? what about me?"

the doctor stared at him in silence. "to be honest with you, i don't know. but she's going to be okay. i'm so sorry."

millie felt her eyes drift open, feeling stress thrive through her thin body as she noticed herself in the same hospital room.

what happened? she moved her hand, watching her pale skin flutter in front of her face. she felt fine. why was she here? the doctors would yell at someone in the hallway again soon.

that's what always happened when she woke up.

she tried to pull herself up, grabbing a fistful of the white sheets to help herself. she felt dizzy, but it was because she hadn't been eating well.

the door flew open, and she jumped as she saw a good looking curly haired boy standing there, a smile breaking on his face when he saw her awake.

he shut the door quickly behind him. "hey. we don't have much time."

millie tilted her head. he suddenly was hot. not that she liked it. that was weird. she was too young for a boyfriend, anyway. wait! who said that she wanted him to be her boyfriend? well, he was a good friend and everything. but now he looked at her different.

"what do you mean?" she mumbled. "is my mom here yet?" she would be here today, is what the doctors said.

"not yet," finn said. "but they've been keeping something from you and i need you to know."

"um... know what?" millie felt dread fill her body.

"millie. you know what's going on is not normal. and they told you that you lost some of your memory, right?"

millie nodded. "yes. it's been a while, at least a few months. you look a lot older. and also." she touched her hair with a smile.

finn sighed. "that's the issue, millie. it's been a lot longer then a few months. and- a lot has happened. millie, you're famous."

millie's mouth fell open. "what do you mean, i'm famous?!"

finn sighed, taking her hand, and she shook him off, and tears filled his eyes instantly, and she felt a little bad.

"sorry. this is confusing. millie, you don't remember anything for years. it's... we're filming the fourth season of our show right now."

millie's eyes widened. "you mean-,"

he nodded. "mills, it's twenty nineteen. you're sixteen years old."

millie's heart was thumping in her chest. "so. you're seventeen? and i'm... oh my god. WAIT! you said - so the shows successful? and - wait! if i'm famous, did i ever get to meet maddie ziegler?"

finn burst out laughing, and she widened her eyes.

"what?" she asked as he wiped tears from his eyes.

"it's - you and maddie- you guys are like besties ."

millie's eyes widened, and she screamed in excitement. "wait, are you serious?"

finn has stopped laughing. "yes. about everything. and also, i'm not supposed to be here. talking to you."

she frowned. "why not?"

he sighed. "that's another story. for another time. what you need to understand, millie, is that - is that i am always here for you. and we - we bonded over the years. you're my," he stopped with a frown.

"my best friend," he chose. "and i care about you a lot. if you ever need me, i'm here for you."

the door flew open, and angry security guards seized finn.

millie let out a small cry. "no, wait! finn? will you tell maddie to come visit me?"

he started laughing through his tears and nodded as they dragged him out of the room and shut the door, leaving millie alone again to wonder what had happened between them.
