Chapter Fourteen - Dark Horse

I sat on a table in the corner slowly but surely freaking out. People could be heard in the hall and it was slowly filling up.

I sneaked over to the door and peeked around it. Jesus Christ! There were loads of people in there! I could see Alice talking to Francesca, then someone pulled me backwards and I nearly fell.

“We aren’t supposed to be peeking Gwen!” Janet reminded me.

I sighed loudly and looked around the door again. I needed to see who was there.

“Gwen!” Janet shouted my name again.

“If you won’t stop bugging me then join me!” I yelled back.

A minute later she was peering round the door with me.

“Hey there’s Kassandra!” she pointed out.

I saw Kassie with Alice and Francesca, Steve had also arrived. Kaci was still nowhere to be seen.

“Janet! Gwen!” I jumped as someone shouted our names.

It was Tessa.

“Who’s out there?!” she said eagerly.

“My sis, Alice, Kassie, Steve, some ‘popular’ people and other people.” Janet told her using bunny ears on the ‘popular’.

“Yeah, the popular people are wearing these really slutty dresses.” I added.

“I take it you mean like Bridget, Ginerva, Elora, Estha, Maida etc.” Tessa recited the list of names of ‘popular’ people we (mainly me) hated.

I nodded as she said the names.

The list of names does go on but it’s extremely long and we start to swear a lot after so I won’t go into any more detail.

“Jacques is here with Caiden.” Janet added.

Tessa groaned. we really hated those two guys. Someone knocked on the door.

“It’s half 7 now so I think most people are here.” Leah informed us. “In fact I think everyone is here.”

Everybody who was sitting now stood up.

“Okay, yeah sure thing.” Leah was talking to someone else now. “Okay guys.”

Oh god! This can’t be good.

“We’ve just done a head count and everybody minus 5 are here. Time to start.” Leah told us through the door.

Butterflies bloomed in my stomach and Janet could tell I was really really extremely nervous. She put a hand on my shoulder and Tessa put a hand on my other.

“It’ll be fine.” Tessa whispered in my ear.

“But there are like loads of people out there.” I replied.

“Yeah but you are an excellent singer.”

“Really?”

“Are you kidding me?!” Janet chimed in, “Course you are!”

These girls, my friends, I swear were the best thing that ever happened to me. And my other friends like Kassandra, Francesca, Steve (especially), Kat, Kaci, Alice, Rosalie, Isabelle, Ingrid, Cara, Ivy, Bella, Caitlyn, Jacklyn and Millie.

“Are you guys ready to go up on stage?” Leah asked.

Mumbled yes’s came from everyone. I could hear Leah’s footsteps as she went up the steps to the stage and to the microphone.

“Okay! Hey guys! Thanks for coming to this bye year 9 party!” she started, whoops from the audience were heard and then Leah continued.

“Now I would like you all to get on the dance floor because music is coming!”

The musicians moved to the door that led straight to stage, Tessa took her hand off my shoulder and smiled at me before joining them.

“These are the musicians for the night!” Leah introduced.

The door opened and they went up the stairs. Loud clapping came from the audience as they stepped onto stage. I could just imagine Leah on the stage gesturing to them, and Tessa looking embarrassed.

“And now…”

I moved towards the door.

“We have…”

Janet and the other two background singers stood behind me.

“Our singers!”

The door opened and the light hit me. Someone shoved me forward and I lifted one heeled foot onto the first step. The rest came easy and before I knew it I was on the stage. The clapping grew and I found familiar faces in the crowd. Kassie, Steve, Francesca and Alice. Izzy and Kat and Kaci were also there.

Leah handed me the microphone and I attached it to the stand. I put both my hands on it to steady them, they were shaking.

“Okay hey guys!” I greeted cheerfully.

Silence. That’s all I got, people really did not like me. I turned to look at Tessa,

“Start.” I mouthed to her.

She nodded to the rest and I turned back to the mic. The music started and my hands shook.

“I knew you were,

You were gonna come to me.” I started singing.

People started bobbing to the music as they warmed up to it.

After a verse and a chorus everybody was dancing. Was I really that good?

Cause once you’re mine, once you’re mine!” my nerves had shrunk and I was enjoying myself.

I guess singing calmed me down. But on the bright side everyone was dancing and my singing was apparently good. I guess Dark Horse by Katy Perry was a good starter song.

I was listening to this song when I wrote the chapter so I thought I would use it. Besides it's a good song! I know I said i was going to update tomorrow but I couldn't wait! Hope you enjoy! keep reading/voting/commenting! Now I am going to update tomorrow!
