Thalia (1)
We landed in a clearing to camp for the night and let me tell you, I've never felt so happy to be on the ground.
Don't get me wrong, it is incredible to be up in the sky on a flying bison, but the incredible part only lasts for so long.
We were all unloading our camp gear from atop of Appa's saddle. Aang and I were passing down the items to Sokka and Katara.
When I handed Sokka his own sleeping bag, he sent me a smile. I smiled back before handing him another one.
"Hey, you guys picked a great campsite. The grass is so soft." Toph said while wiggling her toes in Appa's shedded fur that was on the ground.
"That's not grass. Appa's shedding." Sokka told her. "Oh, gross!" Katara said.
"That's not gross. It's just a part of spring, y'know rebirth, flowers blooming, and Appa gets a new coat." Aang smiles. The whole time, I was focused on a blue bird that landed on his bald head.
"Ah, the beauty of spring." Katara's voice was laced with sarcasm. With all his fur on the floor, Appa had to sneeze, making more of his fur shed off of him
"Appa, stop!" Katara coughed. "It's not that bad, Katara. It makes a great wig!" Sokka turned around with a stack of fur on his head. Aang came down revealing his beard made of fur, "And a great beard!"
Aang and Sokka laughed at each other while I helped Katara take off some of the fur that was on her.
"I'm just glad we finally have another girl in the group. And not just one, two! Because you guys are disgusting." Katara said.
"Excuse me, but does anyone have a razor?" Toph asked. "Because I got some hairy pits!" She puts her arms up behind her head, revealing her armpits full of fur. I turned to Katara, "Make that one and a half."
As everyone begins to laugh, including me, Katara joins in with a giggle.
When the sun was set, we started to set up camp. Katara, Sokka, Aang, and I did our own part. Mine was to unravel the sleeping bags. Aang's was to set up a tent, Sokka's was to get fire wood, and Katara got some water.
Toph, on the other hand, decided to just lay back and rest. I'm used to that and didn't have a problem with it, but I guess Katara did.
"So Toph, usually when setting up camp, we try to divide up the work." Katara told her. I continued doing my contribution but still listened in. "Hey, don't mind me. I'm good to go." Toph responded.
"Well actually, what I'm trying to say is, some of us might fetch water while someone else might set up the fire pit or put up the tent. Or like what Thalia's doing: rolling out the sleeping bags."
"Katara, I'm fine. I can carry my own weight. I don't need a fire, I've already collected my own food, and look-" Toph earth bends two pillars on either side of her. "-my tent's all set up."
"Well, that's great for you, but we still need to finish-"
"I don't understand! What's the problem here!"
Clearly frustrated, Katara says, "Nevermind." Then turns and leaves.
When it was time to go to sleep, Toph earth bent me a tent for myself. I snuggled inside my sleeping bag and hummed as I finally got to go to sleep.
Maybe after a few hours - that felt like a few minutes - Toph came running out of her tent yelling, "There's something coming toward us!"
I groaned as I sat up, rubbing my eyes. We all walked over to the middle of the clearing while Toph placed her hand on the floor. "It feels like an avalanche, but also, not an avalanche."
"Your powers of perception are frightening." Sokka said with his shoulders slumped. "Should we leave?" Katara asked. "Better safe than sorry." Aang said. I sighed as I went back to get my sleeping bag.
Once everything was loaded, we left the clearing on Appa. Off in the distance, we could see somewhat of a tank-like war machine rolling in fast with large dusts of dirt trailing behind.
"What is that thing?" I asked, but no one responded.
After hours of lying, Aang finally landed Appa. Toph jumped off quickly, "Ah, land sweet land!" She stood up from the dirt with her bag in hand, "See you guys in the morning!"
"Night!" I said while helping unload the sleeping bags. "Actually, can you help us unload?" Katara asked Toph. "Really?" Toph frowned. "You need me to help unload Sokka's funky smelling sleeping bag?"
When I handed Sokka his sleeping bag, he looked offended. I wearily smiled, "It is kind of funky." He took it from me and took a whiff of it before falling back on the floor in disgust. I lightly laughed, "Told you."
I jumped down from Appa and helped Sokka up. "When's the last time you washed that thing?" I asked him. He shrugged, "I don't know. Probably since I left the South Pole."
"And when was that?"
"Beginning of winter."
"Ew! Gross!" I crinkled my nose. "I'm never touching it again!"
Our attention was averted to Katara and Toph when there was yelling. "Ever since you've joined us, you've been nothing but selfish and unhelpful!"
"What!?" Toph pointed her finger in Katara's face. "Look here sugar queen, I gave up everything I had so that I could teach Aang earth bending! So don't you talk to me about being selfish!" Toph sat down on the floor and bent two large pillars on either side of her.
Infuriated, Katara gritted, "Sugar Queen!?" Toph earth bend a 'door' in front of her, making Katara even more upset. "Di- Did you just slam the door in my face?! How can you be so infuriating?!"
"Should we... do something?" Aang asked. I shook my head, "I don't think that's a good idea. It's a girl fight."
"Hey, I'm just enjoying the show." Sokka wearily smiled. I nudged him with a playful eye roll. When Aang started to walk over to Katara, I sighed, "Does he not understand what 'a girl fight' means?"
"Okay, okay! You both need to calm down."
"Both?!" Katara turned around and snapped at Aang. "I'm completely calm!"
"Yikes." I said when I saw her face.
Aang backed away slowly, "I can see that."
