Chapter 11: A Kiss Beneath the Snow

Y/N's Pov.

Tale as old as time.

True as it can be.

Barely even friends,

Then somebody bends,

Unexpectedly.

Vaati's arm went to my waist, while the other held my right hand. I placed my left hand on his arm that was holding my waist as we began swaying around, dancing together. Something about this felt... different. I had danced with others before, more specifically Link than anyone else, but something about dancing with Vaati made me feel... very happy.

Just a little change,

Small to say the least.

Both a little scared,

Neither one prepared.

Beauty and the Beast.

While we danced together, I noticed Vaati staring at me and looked up at him with a confused look on my face.
"Is everything alright, Vaati?" I ask.
"Yes. I was just lost in your beautiful eyes." He says with a gentle smile on his face. Both his words and his smile made my cheeks turn a light pink color.
"O-Oh, thank you."

Ever just the same.

Ever a surprise.

Ever as before,

Ever just as sure,

As the sun will rise.

Vaati picked me up in his arms bridal style and began spinning me around, laughing softly. I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck to hold onto him, joining in the laughter. I had never felt so happy before with anyone in my entire life, not even with Link, who I had known my entire life.

Tale as old as time.

Tune as old as song.

Bittersweet and strange,

Finding you can change,

Learning you were wrong.

Vaati had placed me back down on the ground as we began dancing around together once more. I smiled softly and lay my head against his chest. I felt Vaati tense up slightly at first before relaxing. I closed my eyes, listening to his infectious heartbeat. I stopped for a moment as I felt several snowflakes fall from the sky. I chuckle softly.

"I almost forgot that it's wintertime with this lovely meadow." I say, holding a hand out as a snowflake lands on it before melting.
"I used my magic to blow away the snow because I really wanted you to see this place." Vaati responds.
"Thank you Vaati."

Certain as the sun,

Rising in the east.

Tale as old as time,

Song as old as rhyme.

Beauty and the Beast.

"Y/N." Vaati looks at me, taking my hands in his own. He sounded more serious this time.

"What is it, Vaati?"
"I..." He sighs, tightening his grip on my hands. He then moves one of his hands to my cheek before speaking up once more:
"I know that I'm a bad person and that I did some terrible things in the past, but right now, the only thing on my mind right now is making you feel happy. I don't care anymore if I take over Hyrule, or if you still don't want to be my bride or even love me at all. I just want to make you the happiest girl in the world. I love you Y/N, and I always will, even if you don't love me back..."
My heart melted from hearing Vaati's confession. I had never heard anyone say such sweet, passionate words to me in my whole life. Vaati stares down at me, waiting for a response. I knew what he really wanted to know. He wanted to know if I loved him or not. And honestly, now, I didn't know anymore. Vaati had been so kind and courteous to me since the first moment I got there. He's not the monster that everyone in Hyrule perceives he is. He has a loving heart, and all he wants is to be loved by someone. By me.
I felt myself leaning in closer to him, almost as if on instinct. Vaati noticed and did the same in turn. His red eyes felt so entrancing, appearing just like rubies. The distance between us eventually minimized until there no room between us at all, his lips making contact with my own.

"Y/N...?" I quickly pulled back as I heard a voice come from behind us. I turn around and my eyes widen at who I see standing there, a hurt look on his face.

"Link..." I whisper.

If it wasn't already obvious, the song is "Tale as Old as Time" from Beauty and the Beast. Also, it's perfect timing that I made this chapter on Valentine's Day, lol. :3
