Matt began his trek through the cold metal maze. He wiped his hands on his pants, trying to clear to filth off. Cool air gusted him in the face as he made his way in the direction he heard Tom's slamming coming from. He walked, alone with his thoughts and the tapping of his feet on the floor, echoing around him.
Wow. I'm amazing. It took a lot of skill to make it to this point without getting caught. Matt smiled, boosting his self confidence once again. Tom's going to be so proud of me.
Tom. His smile faded slightly as all of his thoughts and feelings about Tom resurfaced. He wondered what he would think of him after he heroically saved the day. He thought about Tom's reaction to when Matt had tried to cuddle, as small as he may be. He'd been blushing.
Maybe he does like me... Matt thought. But don't get hopeful. Though he wasn't used to burying his feelings, He didn't need his heart crushed. His mind wandered back to the car ride.
Matt looked down at his feet, smiling coyly as he remembered the feeling of it. It was such a nice feeling. Every inch of him had been filled with fuzzy warmth. Looking up at the big, protective Tom had given him a sense of security he needed. He felt his cheeks grow warm at the thought. He giggled quietly.
He wiped the smile off his face and shook his head. No. Remember the reasons. If he's straight, you'd be ruining your friendship. It pained him to think this way. Matt wasn't used to suppressing his feelings. And he might have been so tense because he was mad at me. He whimpered a bit, his heart aching.
He didn't want to do it, but he forced himself to. He wanted to be close with Tom. So badly. But he couldn't risk their friendship over his own, stupid feelings.
He almost jumped out of his skin as he heard a tremendous roar from directly above him.
He'd reached Tom!
He smiled again eagerly. Now I've just gotta find a way to get in! He ran faster through the tunnel, sneakers slapping the steel floor. He kept his head craning up, searching for an entrance to Tom's cell.
Soon, he finally found it. Far above him, a square tunnel led to a series of rectangular holes that signified the grate. He knew it was in Tom's cell because he heard the heavy breathing of the monster clearly nearby.
Wait. How am I gonna get out?
He furrowed his brow and put his finger and thumb to his formidable chin. Oh, duh! All I have to do is call for Tom to help me.
"Tom!" he yelled upwardly, as loudly as he could. He needed to be extremely projecting to make up for his size. "Tom! I'm down here!"
The breathing of the monster halted for a second. Thudding of its footsteps came closer. Suddenly, an extremely low, loud and drawn out sound came from high above. White light flashed from the grate, but only for a second.
The sound devolved into a yell from the human voice of Tom. He sounded like he was in pain. Oh no! I'll help you, buddy!
"...Matt?" came the pained voice of Tom seemingly through gritted teeth, echoing about the metal walls. "Is that you?" he whispered.
"Yeah! Tom! Tom, it's me, Matt!" he cheered. He was finally being reunited with his friend!
"...You're under my bed," Tom said with a quiet, weak laugh.
Is he okay?
"I'll just move it." A scraping sound echoed from above him, causing Matt to close his ears, wincing. "Wait, no. You're in that vent." Tom's face appeared high above him. Matt saw the rectangular gaps begin to move and shift as Tom removed the grate.
