Chapter 14- I'm Only Human.
Lauren's POV
If you'd ask me how to describe it, I'd say White & Cold.
Yes it is snowing and I love the snow. I used to play with my mother in the snow. We'd built the perfect snowman and take a picture with it. We'd built up forts and do a snow battle. Of course she was being careful since she was playing it with a six year old.
And yes my mother died when I was seven, but she passed away before there was any snow that Winter. I had no christmas ever since she passed away a few days before christmas that year. Also it will be awkward this year. It is a week away from now and I need to save money again.
One problem: Zayn doesn't know that I sing or play guitar in the mall to earn money. And part of me doesn't want him to find out.
"So do you have any plans for today?" Patricia asks me as she is making breakfast.
I was sitting on one of the chairs and was watching her as she made breakfast for everyone. It is already 10am and Zayn is still asleep, he only gets up when he has too.
"I wanted to study in the library alone today." I lie to her.
I had skipped one week of school because of my bruises and now we have a break since christmas is getting close. I haven't done the essay that I needed to finish like two weeks ago. Yes, I mean the essay about Zayn. I wonder if he finished his essay about me and what he thinks of me.
"That is a great idea, love." Patricia says turning around and facing me. She gives me one of her award winning smiles, that Zayn obviously got from her.
She turns back around and grabs some plates in her hands. "Could you help me with the table?" She asks me as she struggles to get the spoons with her free hand as the other one holds six plates. "Sure." I laugh out as I see her struggle.
..
After breakfast Zayn asked me what I'd be doing today and I told him I wanted to study alone today. He didn't ask me much about it, just where and I told him at the library in the mall which is on the lowest floor and my usual singing spot is at the top floor. He wouldn't know.
After all the talking I got up and changed in some of Doniya's old clothes. It was a plain black dress that came just above my knees. I paired it with a grey knitted cardigan. I let my hair out loose so people wouldn't recognise me right away. I got my guitar from the corner of my room and my notebook with my songs. Before breakfast Patricia had gave me some money for the bus to get to the mall, without that I'd be walking a few miles to the mall. And I am not the easiest person who could ask for money from someone. Money needs to be earned, that is why I started singing. It was the only way for a small girl to earn money.
When I got to my usual spot I saw Richard sitting on the bench that I always used.
"Haven't seen you in a while, Lauren." Richard says giving me a smile. He was never aware of my situation, but he noticed that I got abused and kept quiet. He was always nice to me, after all he let me sing in the mall while most guards were against that he stood up for me.
"There was happening a lot." I tell him.
"Well, it is nice to see you again. You seem better than you've ever been before."
"I am. Thank you. And it is good to see you again as well." I say politely and meaning it.
There were days that I couldn't raise a lot of money to get food for myself and those days he noticed and got me food. He was there for me and I am thankful for him.
