Dang it, Hazel Grace, I thought. Hang in there.

Hazel Grace rode in an ambulance, passed out. A mask was strapped to her face. Her parents were crying.

BREATHE! It was almost too much. It reminded me of when I was sitting next to her in the hospital after I found out about the reoccurrence. This time, it was worse. I couldn't talk to her, couldn't touch her. I couldn't give her the kiss that took away her cancer.

"Okay?" I said really quietly so I couldn't hear myself. I looked back down at Hazel Grace. I could see her lips forming words.

"Okay, Gus," she said.

This is torture, I think.

And all I could do was watch.
