"Hey, Hazel," Isaac said. We were going on our second date. He was smiling. I smiled back even though I knew he couldn't see me.

"Hey, Isaac. Are you ready?" I asked. Isaac nodded. I took his arm and lead him to my car. We sat down. I took a breath through my cannula. Then we drove off to the ice scream shop a few miles from my house.

"What do you want?" Isaac said. "I'll have rocky road."

"I'll just have vanilla." I shrugged. I ordered. We claimed two seats by the window and sat down. The ice cream was okay. Isaac's phone rang suddenly. He grappled for it on the table. He held it up triumphantly. He pressed "accept."

"Hello?" His face drained of color. "Hazel can you wait a few minutes?"

"Yeah, sure," I said uncertainly. I escort him outside. Then I go back inside. Isaac's mouth was moving slowly, then rapid fire. I was worried something was wrong. After maybe ten minutes, Isaac hung up. His face was a mixture of sadness, confusion, and happiness. I went back outside to get him. I noticed I was short of breath.

"Is everything alright?" I said. Isaac thought for a moment.

"That was Monica," he said. "She said she was sorry and wants to get back together." Isaac just looked uncomfortable.

"Isaac, that's great! You should say yes," I said. I meant it. Sort of.

"Really? Are you okay with that?" he said slowly.

"Of course I am. I'll drive you home," I said. We packed up and I dropped him off at his house. I was glad that he was getting back Monica, but what about me?
